Dangerous Rhetoric

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.”
-- Barack Obama

"Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is dead to me now."
-- Daily Kos Kook "BoyBlue"

“Those aren’t the kinds of folks who represent our core American values.”
-- Barack Obama

‘We’re going to punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’
-- Barack Obama
The left is so predictable...
An unstable man whom former friends describe as a leftist, goes on a shooting rampage, and the liberal commentariat calls him a tea partier.  The news media-Democratic establishment-nutroots Axis of Weasels crank up the predictable blather about guns, rightwing hate, talk radio and the "dangers" of free speech.

Can lefty logic really be this flawed?
Some town hall meetings got heated last year, fueled by irate tea partiers...  The shooting happened at a town hall meeting... Ergo tanto cum sum ipso factoid, reducto ad Palin.

Following this same logic, we can completely repudiate environmentalism and global climate change by merely citing Ted Kaczinski's enviro-rantings and bloody attacks.

Millions motivated to vote--None to commit violence
The tea parties moved the middle this last election.  Independents who elected Obama two years ago recoiled in horror at the Democrat agenda and brought a resounding victory to Republicans at the state, local and national level.   If the tea parties really are the font of rightwing violence, why haven't we seen many such attacks?  If they moved so many to go vote Republican, why have they been such a failure at inciting racial and politically-motivated violence?

You don't attract America's broad middle by preaching hatred and violence.  You open a dialog and you talk about ideas and fundamental principles, which is what the tea partiers did.  People are fed up with all the spending and mandating, and non-ideological people turned out and voted to trust the GOP one more time.

Let's Talk Consequences...
We have children condemned to third-world life in inner city slums and failed schools because of the Democratic party's war on poverty and pandering to teachers unions.  We have multi-generational poverty because the democratic party treats the poor like children, giving them housing, food stamps, rewards for unmarried pregnancies.  They give the poor everything but the wherewithal to take care of themselves.  Why?  Because liberals do not trust these people to take care of their own lives; they'd just screw it up, so the democrats destroy their lives for them.

This was not a Palin-directed tea party hit.
It was a crime.  Murder.  Speaking of which, why is it that liberal gun ban bastions like California, Chicago and New York experience so much more violent gun crime than open carry states and cities?  President Obama rightly called the Tucson incident an unspeakable tragedy.  Now, can we also focus our attention on the unspeakable tragedies that happen every day in our crime-riddled inner cities, where good people are prisoners in their own homes?

No.  It's more fun to engage in free-wheeling speculation and unfounded charges.  The rhetoric of the left has come untethered from fact and reason and now floats aloft on an updraft of of hot air and imperious high dudgeon.  They have no problem with that kind of free speech.

Worse, such back and forth obscures the real issue:  We have violent and crazy people walking among us.  This murderer had several run-ins with the law and those who interacted with him thought he was crazy.  Why was he not locked up or at least evaluated?

I pray for the souls that perished in that attack and I pray for the swift and full recovery of Rep Giffords and the other victims.

  1. Plagiarized (of course) from Elliot Ness...
Malone: You said you wanted to get Capone. Do you really wanna get him? You see what I'm saying is, what are you prepared to do?
    Ness: Anything within the law.
Malone: And *then* what are you prepared to do? If you open the can on these worms you must be prepared to go all the way. Because they're not gonna give up the fight, until one of you is dead.
Ness: I want to get Capone! I don't know how to do it.
Malone: You wanna know how to get Capone? They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. *That's* the *Chicago* way! And that's how you get Capone. Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that? I'm offering you a deal. Do you want this deal?
Ness: I have sworn to capture this man with all legal powers at my disposal and I will do so.
Malone: Well, the Lord hates a coward.
[jabs Ness with his hand, and Ness shakes it]
Malone: Do you know what a blood oath is, Mr. Ness?
    Ness: Yes.
Malone: Good, 'cause you just took one.

  6. I saw the mug shot of the shooter on the news and thought, "If he had a lightbulb in his mouth..."

Funny too, for me, because I then sat down, read this blog, and sure enough saw a picture of Uncle Fester on the lower right side!

The shooter may be crazy, he may be into the right or the left or some amalgam of kooky ideologies. We really don't know yet.

  8. another goodie SF.
The reason the Town halls got heated was because the people were not being listened to about their concerns. The dem reps were just going to vote with Pelosi and Obama and we were just going to have to buck and deal with it no matter how much it was going to cost.
And we know why because if they
didn't give the wicked witch of the west what she wanted she was going to shun them from any further legislation.
The people had every right to be mad especially when our own government was calling us names on the media. Like Astro Turfing and then calling us racists when in fact we all know how they outplayed the race card.
The progressives purposely are the ones were trying to incite a revolution by trying to "remake" the country with policies they know are not popular and by calling the Constitution and outdated document, etc.
If they felt that that way then why did promise to uphold it when
they sworn in.(not that I would expect a coherent answer from any of them)
All the lies and deceit, bribes and arm twisting we have seen in the most corrupt administration ever.

Alot of people were so captivated by Obama and it's very difficult for the liberals to admit that many of those people didn't like what they got for thier vote and rejected it on Nov 2. So then they have to make it about racist conservatives to justify it to themselves.

I notice they don't come to your blog much anymore. I think your intellect and common sense is a threat to them.
Unless they have their "cross hairs" on Sarah Palin.

Sorry about the deleted commnets. I've been up since 4:30 AM and had to take the train into Manahattan for a meeting on the so I am now over tired!

  9. Loughner got so far down this road of destruction because we have evolved into a society of incapable of holding people accountable. We offer do-overs in the extreme … until some deviant cuts down a bright young woman serving in congress, and then we sit around and wonder how this could happen.

It is difficult to maintain confidence in our Congress when morons like the Pennsylvania democrat suggests another law prohibiting threats against members of Congress. Wow … that should go a long way to prevent another assassination attempt.

Someone should have placed Loughner in irons while still in high school; his parents charged with child neglect. Truly, if there is ever justification for abortion, Loughner is it.

  10. Silverfiddle: It's a shame that such an atrocity is being used for political points.

Loughner is disturbed and people can hunt from now until doomsday for a reason and TRY to cast the blame somewhere else, but there is one fact that will remain constant; HE is responsible.

  11. Exactly right Silverfiddle, the left are a fact and reason free zone, it's only hatred and smearing that you'll get from them.

  12. Thanks for the compliments, Lisa, even being overtired from being up all night...

I think the lefties don't show up here because they are tired of arguing, and I can identify with that.

Sam, you always have a way of cutting through the BS!

  13. If one reasons that Sarah Palin and the Tea Party is responsible for the actions of this lunatic, the next logical step is to attribute the actions of the next person who knocks over a 7-11 to the Democrats... they are after all "Redistributing Wealth".

Inventing your own fantasy currency is no more closely related to advocacy of a return to the gold standard then suggesting we barter with gold fish.

Given his writings and what we 'know' about him from press accounts, this was one seriously disturbed young man. There is a good article detailing his past behavior here:

  14. Why was he not locked up or at least evaluated?

I'm not going to defend Loughner's parents.

But I will point out that they must have known that something was wrong with their son. That said, getting an adult child forced into treatment for mental illness is damned near impossible.

BTW, I will also point out that the Hinckleys knew that their son was mentally ill. They didn't even try to get help for him! No, indeed. Instead, they funded his flying all over the country.

  15. AOW,
I won't condemn the parents, but they had to know something was wrong with this guy.

More importantly, he has several run ins with the police for disturbing college classes and potentially threatening behavior, but they never had him evaluated?

Has our society's non-judgmentalism really come to this? That someone can act this insane and have contact with the police, and they can't even have him evaluated for mental competency?
