According to the report, Carlos Canino, Acting ATF Attache in Mexico, calls the strategy his agency employed: "The perfect storm of idiocy."Here’s an interesting game you can play. Remove "Sinaloa Cartel” from Mr. Canino's statement and replace it with your own appropriate word. For example…
"We armed the [Sinaloa] cartel," Canino told investigators. "It is disgusting." Canino will be a key witness at the hearing. (CBS News)
“We armed the bankers. It’s disgusting”
Our government...
* Running guns to Mexican drug gangs,
* Inflating the housing market and creating a spectacular crash,
* Running a rape and fondle operation at airports and calling it security,
* Blowing money on international community organizing
* Paying people to not work,
* Paying people to dispose of perfectly good used cars thereby driving up the price of used cars,
* Allowing people to enter our country illegally and roam around at will
* Encouraging immoral business owners to hire illegal aliens to avoid paying a fair American wage,
* Robbing the taxpayer and giving the loot to big banks and big corporations,
* Perpetually spending more money than it takes in…
Our Government: Creating shitstorms of stupidity. It’s disgusting.
Well, human beings aren't perfect. History is full of ideas that "seemed good at the time," and it will continue to be so.
ReplyDeleteI agree Jack. But DC has really turned into a stupid idea factory. They are King Midas in reverse, turning gold into lead.
ReplyDeleteIt's one thing if you make a bad personal decision and lose some money because of it, but it really galls to see an army of politicians do it for you, and to the tune of trillions.
Please. The Projectors of the Grand Academy of Lagado are only JUST getting started. This is nothing.
ReplyDeleteYou still have your own personal goals to work towards while not directly working for them. THAT has GOT to stop. The projectors have MORE IMPORTANT things for you to work on. Like extracting sunbeams from cucumbers. ;)
A great list, Silver. One could add: delibertly driving up the cost of energy, withdrawing more and more pubic lands to access by the public, denying a company the right to bulid a factory in a right-to-work state, wnating to raise taxes in the middle of a recession. The list could go on and on. The question is: is it due to stupidity or is there an agenda at work?
ReplyDeleteAll comes from governing by emotions rather than reason and laws, and our rulers have some of the most twisted emotions too.
ReplyDeleteTOTALLY stupid and disgusting, and if we had an honest, curious and conscientious media, they'd be writing like you and people would be waking up, SF.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I was thinking that they were turning gold into something else, but I get your point.
ReplyDeleteThey're only representing the fact that America seems to have become a dumb idea factory as a whole.
Slow children at play.
ReplyDelete"Our Government: Creating shitstorms of stupidity. It’s disgusting."
ReplyDeleteIs it stupidity or deliberate?
I'd say 50/50 in that scenario.
Disbanding ATF would be a good money saver.
ReplyDeleteOur Government: Creating shitstorms of stupidity.
ReplyDeleteThose last three words sum up the situation, all right.
Yet, it seems to me that most Americans are just going on as if all these shitstorms didn't happen and are not still happening.
Ducky: Disbanding ATF is just a start...
ReplyDeleteand this admin wants bigger government so more public workers can eat out of the public trough?
ReplyDeleteOur odds would have been better on the Ttianic.
" ... Encouraging immoral business owners to hire illegal aliens to avoid paying a fair American wage ..."
ReplyDeleteI agree with all except the above. Who could possibly think that American wages are "fair?"
If American wages hadn't been jacked up to the point of absurdity by Marx-inspired unionist activism, there would be no need either to export jobs or hire illegals to work outside the system.
It's the SYSTEM, itself, that's our of whack, hopelessly corrupt, and inimical to prosperity.
What's the good of earning more and more dollars, if they're if they're going to be worth less and less, and price your job out of the marketplace in the process?
The GOVERNMENT is the villain in the piece, stupid.
Working outside the system is the only SANE thing to do anymore. The SYSTEM in case you hadn't noticed is out to KILL us.
Don't try to "reform" the system. GET RID OF IT.
As Rush quote earlier today about the way congress has handled the Debt Ceiling Crisis:
It does no good to put the car on cruise control when it's racing for the edge of the cliff. We're still going to crash and burn at 60 MPH just as we would at 80 MPH, UNLESS we STOP and CHANGE DIRECTION.

Woodpecker-Saving Girl's Mother Gets Fined $500
2:34 PM, Aug 2, 2011 |
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WUSA) -- Eleven-year-old aspiring veterinarian, Skylar Capo, sprang into action the second she learned that a baby woodpecker in her Dad's backyard was about to be eaten by the family cat.
"I've just always loved animals," said Skylar Capo. "I couldn't stand to watch it be eaten."
Skylar couldn't find the woodpecker's mother, so she brought it to her own mother, Alison Capo, who agreed to take it home.
"She was just going to take care of it for a day or two, make sure it was safe and uninjured, and then she was going to let it go," said Capo.
But on the drive home, the Capo family stopped at a Lowes in Fredericksburg and they brought the bird inside because of the heat. That's when they were confronted by a fellow shopper who said she worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
"She was really nervous. She was shaking. Then she pulled out a badge," said Capo.
The problem was that the woodpecker is a protected species under the Federal Migratory Bird Act. Therefore, it is illegal to take or transport a baby woodpecker.
The Capo family says they had no idea.
"I was a little bit upset because I didn't want my mom to get in trouble," said Skylar.
So as soon as the Capo family returned home, they say they opened the cage, the bird flew away, and they reported it to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
"They said that's great, that's exactly what we want to see," said Capo. "We thought that we had done everything that we could possibly do."
But roughly two weeks later, that same woman from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service showed up at Capo's front door. This time, Capo says the woman was accompanied by a state trooper. Capo refused to accept a citation, but was later mailed a notice to appear in U.S. District Court for unlawfully taking a migratory bird. She's also been slapped with a $535 fine.
"I feel harassed and I feel angry," said Capo. ...

Anyone else find it ironic we are "cutting the debt" while adding 7 Trillion to it over the next 10 years?
ReplyDeleteThink this argument will work with Visa?
Upon speaking with the subject, later identified as Alison Capo, on June 27, the agent determined that no further action was warranted. A citation that had been previously drafted by the agent was cancelled on June 28.
ReplyDeleteFreeThinke: Good call on the "fair American wage." Obviously, it's a relative term, impossible to quantify. Bottom line is illegal immigrants undercut Americans and drive down wages.
ReplyDeleteIf it were a bidding war among Americans I would say let the free market rule, but it's not.
" ... the agent determined that no further action was warranted. A citation that had been previously drafted by the agent was cancelled on June 28."
ReplyDeleteAre we supposed to feel glad about that, when the bird loving family should never -- ever -- have been approached by a government official in the first place?
I posted the article to illustrate how moronic, overly officious and terrifying government overreach has become in our supposedly "free" society.
This is in line with recent articles about lemonade stands shut down and children's parents fined for not filing permits to purvey food to the public, etc.
Then there is the story of the woman who is being harassed and legally prosecuted for growing vegetables in her own front yard!
Just last night I heard from a friend in Nevada who has a perfectly sane 90-year-old mother-in-law still living on her own in Michigan. The old lady was just "visited" by a social worker who seems to want to have the woman declared incompetent, then have her dragged from the property she's owned for many years and thrown into a State-Run Facility -- "for her own good," of course.
My friend's husband, who is in his early seventies, is now being forced to make an expensive trip to Michigan, and hire an attorney to see if he can't find a way to stop his mother from being railroaded out of her home. Apparently, he can't just get her out of there, take her to Nevada with him, because he'd be guilty of kidnapping under the Law.
One more bit of proof that "The Law, is an ass" -- as if we needed it.
These stories seem to be multiplying. I find them frightening, myself. The loss of liberty we have been experiencing by attrition for many years should have everyone very upset, but the process has been so insidious most don't realize what's been happening.

ReplyDeleteMy Word Verification is somewhat like I feel these days: FORGADAM! ??
The system doesn't work...you complain.
ReplyDeleteThe system works, you complain.
16 U.S.C. 703-712; Ch. 128; July 13, 1918; 40 Stat. 755
Establishment of a Federal prohibition, unless permitted by regulations, to "pursue, hunt, take, capture, kill, attempt to take, capture or kill, possess, offer for sale, sell, offer to purchase, purchase, deliver for shipment, ship, cause to be shipped, deliver for transportation, transport, cause to be transported, carry, or cause to be carried by any means whatever, receive for shipment, transportation or carriage, or export, at any time, or in any manner, any migratory bird, included in the terms of this Convention . . . for the protection of migratory birds . . . or any part, nest, or egg of any such bird." (16 U.S.C. 703)
Give me a break, the law has been on the books since 1918.
Now admittedly, the incident should have been resolved at the Lowes with the agent in question. But then, you have absolutely no idea what the response of the mother was to the agent, for all you know she was a complete and utter jerk. None of the 32 news articles provided any detail on what transpired at Lowes between the mother and the agent. For all you know, if not confronted by the agent they would have kept it as a pet.
You complain the government selectively enforces laws (Immigration), and you complain when the government enforces the letter of the law (Fish and Game). Technically, the mother, as the responsible adult, was guilty of a violation of the law. Common sense prevailed, you should be happy.
Unless of course banning the capture and transport of woodpeckers is part of some vast conspiracy.
Cheers!
Which is it?
It's what big government does, and liberals love it for that.
ReplyDeleteContrariety n. pl.
ReplyDelete1. The state or quality of being contrary; opposition; repugnance; disagreement; antagonism.

There must be a specific term for people who habitually attribute thoughts to others those others may or may not think, and who act as though others have said things they did not actually say, but go on to argue vehemently against such attributions as though they were established fact, but I don't know what it is. Does anyone?
ReplyDeletePrecognitive badgeristics, perhaps?
I always thought such behavior primarily characteristic of leftist agitators and prosecuting attorneys, but apparently it's a personality trait that can appear in people of any and all political, religious and philosophical persuasions.
And as Little Orphan Anne never used to say, "The Oligarchs'll gitcha eff ya don't watch out."
~ FreeThinke
I don't think I'm being contrary, and I think your thoughts speak for themselves, I don't need to attribute anything to you.
ReplyDeleteAre we supposed to feel glad about that, when the bird loving family should never -- ever -- have been approached by a government official in the first place?
A woman, walking around a hardwares store with a woodpecker in a cage, in clear violation of a law that has been on the books for close to 100 years shouldn't be approached by a fish and game agent?
terrifying government overreach
Really?
One more bit of proof that "The Law, is an ass"
So you what? Dispute the need for laws protecting migratory birds?
You can think it unnecessary, although I would like to hear your argument if you do, but it is still a law and a long standing one at that.
Laws need to be enforced. Implied by your statements is that the agent should have done nothing, despite the law.
It is not the agent's responsibility to interpret the law. The agent was just doing her job (or was being a petty, power mad bureaucrat...we'll never know) but the issue was resolved satisfactorily.
The whole incident is a non-event.
I'll agree it silly for police to be shutting down lemonade stands run by little kids. Kind of over the top if its on the road in front of their house. But if it was at a public event (one news article was about children at a town sponsored bicycle race), which the government leases vendor space, for which you paid 50...100...150 dollars for a permit, how would you feel if an 11 year old kid set up their lemonade stand next to your booth undercutting your prices by 90%?
I occasionally volunteer my time working vendor stands for charity at local college sporting events. It is standard practice and the profits all go to charity. We are not allowed to undercut paying commercial vendors, the prices are set in the conditions of the permit. Kids should be allowed to undercut that? Just because they are kids?
The situations are often more complicated than you may think.
You may disagree with permitting, or with the government selling vendor space...but think of the free for all if there were not any controls at all.
Cheers!

ReplyDeleteThe quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath: it is twice blest;
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes:
'Tis mightiest in the mightiest: it becomes
The throned monarch better than his crown;
His sceptre shows the force of temporal power,
The attribute to awe and majesty,
Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings;
But mercy is above this sceptred sway;
It is enthroned in the hearts of kings,
It is an attribute to God himself;
And earthly power doth then show likest God's
When mercy seasons justice. Therefore, Jew,
Though justice be thy plea, consider this,
That, in the course of justice, none of us
Should see salvation: we do pray for mercy;
And that same prayer doth teach us all to render
The deeds of mercy. I have spoke thus much
To mitigate the justice of thy plea;
Which if thou follow, this strict court of Venice
Must needs give sentence 'gainst the merchant there.
