The Chavez twins |
Western Hero doesn't celebrate international communist holidays, but we recognize our American Labor Day, since it has been cleansed of it's embarrassing socialist origins.
Obama and the Democrats Wage War on the American Worker
Obama used the power of the state to punish another enemy this past week, sending armed agents to storm a guitar factory whose owner had the temerity to not bribe, er... pay a campaign contribution to the Obama campaign. The pretext? Indian workers should have sanded those boards, not Americans!
Boeing's newest plant remains shuttered and thousands out of work because Obama has again used the power of the state to punish South Carolina for not voting for him.
Add to this the fact that President Obama's "Jobs" Czar has shipped tens of thousands of jobs to China, and it is clear that President Obama and the Democrats hate the American worker and have done everything in their power to discourage American businesses from hiring them.
President Obama and the Democrats are gold-plated members of the DC-Chamber of Commerce Cheap Labor Cabal that supports the exploitation of illegal immigrants. They violate the human rights of immigrants while denying millions of American workers a decent wage for their labor. Millions more Americans are completely out of work thanks to the Democratic party jobs program for illegal immigrants.
Strangling Job Creators with Red Tape
Another dictatorial tactic is to tangle up a company with confusing and contradictory regulations so that no matter how diligent and sincere its efforts are, an army of compliance bureaucrats can storm its offices and quickly find damning evidence of corporate malfeasance and disobedience to the state.
Trucking company Old Dominion took an alcoholic trucker off the road, following Department of Transportation regulations. That same action ran afoul of another government agency, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). (See the Human Events article) Another company impaled upon the horns of a government-created dilemma.
We need to get rid of EEOC, Department of Labor and every other agency that enforces labor laws or enshrines the enforcement of some laws over others. So many government agencies serve as nothing more than infestations of special interest activists to they can sap this nation from the inside by using the government's powers against their enemies. It is a sure sign of a destructive, hidebound government when one private sector business action complies with one government regulation while simultaneously breaking another.
Pass the laws and let violations be dealt with in civil court. As a bonus to liberals, that action could increase labor union membership, making unions actually useful again as an advocate before the bar for workers whose rights have been abused by employers.
Our government must also cease raiding places of business as if they were Al Qaeda strongholds. The federal government's armed raid on the Gibson Guitar factory was a gross overreach befitting a Latin American dictatorship, or perhaps a Russian Kleptocracy raid on BP.
Obama's Jobs Machine is Stuck in Reverse
So if you're out of a job, you should be marching on the White House and demanding an end to job killing statism that supports foreign workers over American workers. Demand an end to illegal immigration that is stealing millions of jobs. Tell the government to call off the regulatory gestapo that harasses the people who hand you a paycheck.
...President Obama's "Jobs" Czar has shipped tens of thousands of jobs to China...
ReplyDeleteCorrect me if I'm wrong. I thought that GWB did a lot of such outsourcing, too.
I can't wait to hear Obama's new jobs program. It has to be a winner if it is so important that he asked to address a Joint Session of Congress. I'd be willing to bet that it will in fact kill more jobs than it creates.
ReplyDeleteThe First Labor Day
ReplyDeleteThe first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.
In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.
Labor Day Legislation
Through the years the nation gave increasing emphasis to Labor Day. The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed during 1885 and 1886. From them developed the movement to secure state legislation. The first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the first to become law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. During the year four more states — Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York — created the Labor Day holiday by legislative enactment. By the end of the decade Connecticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed suit. By 1894, 23 other states had adopted the holiday in honor of workers, and on June 28 of that year, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.
I don't see how you can imply that a holiday started with individual states and approved by those individual states is somehow a "communist" inspired holiday. Especially in view of the fact that the Soviet Union did not exist when the idea of Labor Day started in this country.
And about those jobs being shipped overseas:
“When a good or service is produced at lower
cost in another country, it makes sense to import
it rather than to produce it domestically.”
—Economic Report of the President,GWBush, p. 25,
February 2004
“Outsourcing is just a new way of doing
international trade. More things are tradable
than were tradable in the past. And that’s a
good thing.”
—N. Gregory Mankiw, Chairman of
President Bush’s Council of Economic
Advisors, Feb. 9, 2004
The outsourcing of U.S. jobs “is part of trade...
and there can’t be any doubt about the
fact that trade makes the economy stronger.”
—U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow,
March 29, 2004
Republicans support outsourcing. But you seem to be against it only when it happens under a Democrat.
The president does not do any outsourcing, but he can implement policies that help or hinder it.
ReplyDeleteMy point is neither pro nor con on outsourcing.
My point is that liberals cry and scream against outsourcing, yet GE CEO Jeffrey Imelt has outsourced tens of thousands of GE jobs to China, yet Obama names him Jobs Czar.
That makes no sense! But little about this administration does.
Shaw: I guess you missed the first link...

And Communism predates the Soviet Union.
This post describes in a nutshell why this is the saddest Labor Day since the Great Depression.
Shaw, don't confuse the USSR with the beginnings of communism, Fredrick Engels along with Marx offered the first detailed theorization of primitive communism in 1884.
ReplyDeleteBarack Obama is the Hugo Chavez of North America
ReplyDelete------------------
Absolutely ridiculous. Statements like that do little but identify the fringe right.
Labor Day came out of the Pullman Strike, workers burning down buildings, threatening people and threatening the US Mail.
ReplyDeleteThe Guitar story has many aspects and I have barely seen it in the msm. I'm glad you mentioned it as it's absolutely horrid and very Chavez-esque.
SF, thanks for identifying the 'fringe right'....Proud to be amongst you.
WHy does it always have to be about hate with you? Why can't it just be that they're idiots?
ReplyDeleteJack: You're a good writer, better than I. Can't you recognize a rhetorical flourish? Especially one thrown back in the faces of people who constantly accuse rightwingers of some act of hate or other?
ReplyDeleteWe hate the poor, the elderly, foreigners... bla bla bla ad nauseum.
Look at how many people are out of work, and Obama goes after employers. Using liberal logic (that concludes we want to push granny down the stairs), he must hate them.
Do I really express myself so poorly? Am I too tongue in cheek?
@ Ducky: Absolutely ridiculous. Statements like that do little but identify the fringe right.
ReplyDeleteWhat a tired msnbc talking point. Such unsubstantiated twaddle is beneath you, Ducky. Haven't had your first shot of scotch yet?
Bullshit. The GOP ran and won on jobs in 2010 and still haven't introduced a single jobs bill.
ReplyDeleteThe GOP hates American workers in favor of thier wealthy overlords.
Bd: Struck a never there, eh?
ReplyDeleteThe truth hurts.
You voted for this failure.
Learn it. Own it. Eat it.

ReplyDeleteLook well upon the men who dig in mines,
And work machines in mills and factories grim.
Be aware that those who tend the vines
Or till the soil give much for wages slim.
Reaping, sowing, weeding, hoeing make
Full the nation’s store of nutriment.
Overland the burly truckers take
Rich provisions and accoutrement
Coast to coast. The teamsters load and haul
Enormous hordes of stuff that we’ve empowered,
Shipped in freighters, stored in silos tall,
Delivered, well-displayed, and then devoured.
Awards are due to goods and who supplies them,
Yet the wise despise the guys who advertise them.

The recent spate of forcing children who set up lemonade stands in front of their homes to shut down, because their products haven't been vetted by the FDA and the EPA or the ten year olds didn't obtain a business license that would have cost more than they could possibly hope to take in is symptomatic of the government overreach -- the penchant for tyrannical micro-management -- that kills initiative and takes all the joy out of life -- the approach to government that is slowly-but-surely killing this country.
ReplyDeleteDo we need regulation?
Of course.
We just don't need the kind of regulation we've been getting in latter years, and we need a whole lot less of the kind for which we do have a legitimate need.
"THE GOVERNMENT THAT GOVERNS BEST GOVERNS LEAST"
Before you go gung go for Nanny State Socialism, ask yourself, "Who gets to hire the Nanny, and who gets to see that she gets fired, if she abuses the children in her care?"
Conservatives don't hate the labor force, they hate the would-be tyrants who exploit the concerns of labor to gain personal power at the expense of the health and strength of our economy. It has been the demands of unions and the draconian policies their lackeys in government put in force who have virtually priced American Labor out of existence.
It hasn't been the greed of CEO's that's driven Industry to outsourcing; it's been the deadly partnership between Big Labor and Big Government working hand-in-hand to weaken, maim and ultimately destroy Capitalism -- the only engine that creates wealth, and makes leisure time possible for all who work.

ReplyDeleteMmmmmm. Tastes like chicken.
Mmmmmm. Tastes like chicken.
ReplyDelete;)
Conservatives should hang there heads in shame every labor day - all day long.

Bullshit. The GOP ran and won on jobs in 2010 and still haven't introduced a single jobs bill.
ReplyDeleteBwah-ha-ha-ha! Bd thinks that the "government" creates jobs.
All the government can do, bd, is NOT DESTROY jobs. And lately, Bd, it's been doing a piss poor job of it.
ReplyDeletePlease elaborate, Jersey.
ReplyDeleteToday, Obama presides over the highest unemployment Labor Day since the Great Depression.
Keeping it simple here Silver (working today) in addressing the question posed in the title;
ReplyDeleteWhy Does Obama Hate American Workers?
We do something he abhors and has never done himself - work.
Christopher: LOL! That will make the quote of the week, and it's only Monday.
ReplyDelete"Mmmmmm. Tastes like chicken."
ReplyDeleteHardly! I could tell you what it does taste like, but I'm much too polite and too well-bred.
"Hawaiian Fraud Chicken made from a Treasured Old Chicago Recipe by Col. Jeremiah Wright" might be a good way to describe it.
~ FreeThinke
Unsabstantial twddle? You call this guy a Chavez ally and I'm the one indulging in hyperbole?
ReplyDeletePlease, then we have the Queen of the Ladies Who Lunch giving us a history of the American labor movement in shorthand.
No analysis of why the Pullman strike occurred but she is clearly all in on returning to the days of the robber barons (child labor, company towns eh z?)
Going back on my mothers side there are members of the family who were "mill girls" in Lowell. Maybe z should look it up and understand what she wants to return to.
Obama and Chavez. Absolutely insane.
"I can't wait to hear Obama's new jobs program. ... I'd be willing to bet that it will in fact kill more jobs than it creates."
ReplyDeleteThe only kind of job Obama can give anyone is a SNOW JOB.
~ FreeThinke
Notice please that I, who proudly identify myself as a card-carrying reactionary -- a true Tory -- took the time today to honor the laboring class with a paean of praise -- in iambic pentameter no less -- and as is always the case with Alinskyites and Nanny Statists -- not only was no notice taken, but I get accused along with everyone else of "hating" the working men and women of America anyway.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder Ann Coulter advises us never to talk with Liberals, unless there's no possible way to avoid it!
One Way Rudeness -- the favored methodology of "Progressives." THEY feel perfectly free at all times to chastise, castigate, counsel, condemn, caricature and crap all over anyone who does not share their views, but dare to point out a glaring inconsistency or falsehood in any of the crud they fling your way, and YOU are a dirty SOB who'd sell your three-year-old-daughter's virginity to Dominique Strauss-Kahn, if the price was right.
Buncombe! Balderdash! Tosh and Tarradiddle! Stuff and Nonsense! Bilge! Rot! Bullshit! All describe liberalism to a tee.
~ FreeThinke
Tarradiddle? Cool, I just learned a new word! Thanks, FT.
ReplyDeleteDucky: I didn't say Obama and Chavez were allies. I said Obama resembles Chavez. In fact, I would call him the Chavez of North America.
Punishing enemies, hating on big oil, closing down factories that aren't in bed with the state...
Looks like Chavismo to me.
>“When a good or service is produced at lower cost in another country, it makes sense to import it rather than to produce it domestically.”
ReplyDeleteThat's absolutely correct. However, there is a universe of difference between importing because something can naturally be obtained more cheaply that way and importing because government regulations have created an artificial barrier to cheaper product domestically. What we have now is the federal government regulating domestic operations out of business or out of the country.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBasta....why's that so difficult for some people to understand?
ReplyDelete"Tarradiddle? Cool, I just learned a new word! Thanks, FT."
ReplyDeleteThat's what British Nannies of the Old school used to say when they meant BULLSHIT.
Sounds more genteel than BS, doesn't it? Nevertheless, a turd by any other name still stinks.
};-)>
Ducky, sorry I didn't give you whole history of the PUllman strike in a blog comment; maybe you can look it up. The comment above, to which I responded, deserved correcting.
ReplyDeleteBY the way, do you think that we who see what the unions are doing now really think mill girls and child labor are good things to return to? REALLY?
Speedy G said...Bwah-ha-ha-ha! Bd thinks that the "government" creates jobs.
ReplyDeleteReally? So all those state highways jobs are not created by the government?
Obama has created more jobs in 2 years than Bush did in 8.
You're a corporate lemming.
Fox News Still Pushing Myth That Stimulus Failed
http://mediamatters.org/research/201109020016
z, you don't have much of an understanding of the Pullman strike or American labor history.
ReplyDeleteSilverfiddle and yourself are doctrinaire Libertarians and may well see child labor laws as "excessive" regulation. The sentiment has been expressed by Baggers in Maine.
But at any rate you'll be quite happy to have the nation back to the state it was under the Robber Barons and will absolutely refuse to admit the progress achieved by the left building a middle class in America.
I went down to Lynn beach and walked a few miles listening to Democracy Now! They had Billy Bragg on for the full hour and he ha a lot to say about trying to avoid cynicism. That's going to be very difficult unfortunately in the face of the Bagger threat. I do fear for the country.
But I'll tell you that my family has been through a lot more of the American labor movement in the Merrimac valley and knows a bit more about it than someone who apparently hasn't ha a job for at least 30 years.
REPORT: The American Middle Class Was Built By Unions And It Will Decline Without Them
ReplyDeleteLabor Day was first celebrated in
the late 1880′s as labor activists from the American Federation of Labor (which later formed part of the basis for the AFL-CIO) and other unionsrallied around a day to celebrate organized labor and to take a day off.
In 1887 Oregon started a formal “Labor Day” and by 1897 President Glover Cleveland made it a federal holiday, reacting to pressure from unions following the contentious Pullman Strike.
And yet, despite the many benefits unions have provided the United States,right-wing politicians and business interests have for years sought toundermine the ability of Americans to organize to demand better pay, benefits, and conditions. From the anti-worker Taft-Hartley Act to the recent GOP-led efforts to kill public worker collective bargaining
rights, these assaults have successfully decreased union membership over time. In the prosperous 1950′s, nearly one in three Americans was in a
union. Today, it is closer to one in ten.
This has had a
deterimental effect on the American middle class. As the following chart
from CAP’s David Madland and Karla Waters demonstrates, as union
membership fell from the 1970′s to the present, the middle class’s share of national income fell as well:
http://thinkprogress.org/econo...
Obama's stimulus a success? I'm sure the legions of unemployed will be happy to hear that.
ReplyDeleteGovernment creates jobs? OK, why doesn't the government just hire everybody? Problem solved!
More importantly, where would government get the money to hire all these people to build all this infrastructure?
Do you even think this crap through?
Let me help you...
How about taking the dictatorial boot heel off job creators so that people have jobs again? Government taxes the workers and the businesses to pay for the infrastructure.
Ducky, as I said, I've researched Pullman and understand it perfectly.
ReplyDeleteWhat nonsense are you pushing? We like child labor?
But, you're right... I had my own company for 25 yrs and am working again..great work I am loving. I'd call neither situation "a job"...i wish that for everyone.
Poor Bd...if he was any smarter, he might have learned from Elmer's Brothers' responses to him for that same piece of progressive idiocy he posted at geeeZ, but....better not LEARN, one might have to actually think differently than moveon...THAT must feel REAL scary.
>the Robber Barons
ReplyDeleteMYTH ALERT!
I think he has a difficult time identifying with people who take less than four months of vacation a year. Or, maybe he just struggles to identify with people not raised by Marxists?
ReplyDeleteIt's not his fault that 300 million of us exist in a completely different reality.
Obama has created more jobs in 2 years than Bush did in 8.
ReplyDeletelol! Obama also has borrowed more money in two years to create phony jobs than Bush did in his first 7.
If I spent $4 trillion more than I took in, I could create even more phony jobs than Obama did. What kind of jobs have we gotten for that extra $4 trillion spent, Bd? Permanent high paying Green jobs? Nope. Government Motors jobs? Has GM's stock hit $124 yet (the break-even point for taxpayers for the auto bailout to not lose money)?
Unfortunately for the country, Obama has also DESTROYED more jobs in his first two years than Bush did in eight.
Tie a can on it Farmer.
ReplyDeleteBush destroyed jobs.
Jobs have increased under Obama but not at a rate which will absorb the growing work force.
But I expect little from the "party of responsibility" (LMFAO).
AOW, you have forgotten that it's Ok when the regressives do it.
ReplyDelete>Jobs have increased
ReplyDeleteI don't think that means what you think it means.
100% right Silver, unfortunately leftards are too stupid to get a few basics.
ReplyDelete- The harder you make it for businesses to fire people, the fewer people they hire.
- The more rules and regulations you impose on them, the fewer productive jobs they can create.
- The more you tax them, the fewer jobs they can create.
But no, leftards insist on 'helping'.
Silverfiddle,
ReplyDeleteThe president does not do any outsourcing, but he can implement policies that help or hinder it.
My point is neither pro nor con on outsourcing.
I realize that.
But I cannot see how any President can consider himself labor friendly without a better GDP than we have now.
In my view, there will be no real economic recovery without a better GDP.
Joe,
ReplyDeleteI like your use of the term phony jobs.
More government jobs does not equal an improved economy.
Jobs have increased under Obama but not at a rate which will absorb the growing work force.
ReplyDeleteThis is the kind of technically true, awkward formulations you hear liberals spout when their ideas and their heroes have failed.
By that standard, Ducky, jobs increased under Bush as well. And the Month of August saw no growth at all.
But the stimulus succeeded! Yay! all those millions who can't find a job must be so happy to hear that.
And the WINNER of Today's Award for Brightest Most Succinct Summation of All That Is Wrong with Our Economy Goes to BASTIATARIAN for:
ReplyDelete"What we have now is the federal government regulating domestic operations out of business or out of the country."
I would only add that government in bed with the unions, who have provided the pressure that brought about these lethal regulations is the most important factor.
The great irony is that UNIONISM, which is very very close to Marxism in sentiment and affect, came into existence to protect and enhance the lives of rank and file working people (i.e. the non-owner, non-executive class), and what it has done, instead, is drive companies out of business and foster outsourcing.
The "Indians" always accuse the "Chiefs" of GREED.
Perhaps, but the greed of the "Indians" (i.e. the workers led by their unionist leaders) is not only punishing the "Chiefs" (i.e. CEO's and Executives) it is killing off the "Tribes."
Excessive greed brings about its own punishment on all sides.
Ergo, the element that drives the entire economic situation is ultimately MORAL. How about that, baseball fans?
~ FreeThinke
I have to say that the EEOC and Department of Labor need to go. They don't help anyone, believe me I know firsthand. They care more for the companies than the people they are supposed to be representing.
ReplyDeleteMoney is all that matters to them. That's all they care about.
As for outsourcing, I wish there was a way to put high penalty costs to any company that wishes to use companies outside the United States.
It is a great irritant for many of us to call an AMERICAN company only to get someone with such a heavy accent that they can't understand a darn word you are saying or vice-versa!
Jobs have increased under Obama but not at a rate which will absorb the growing work force.
ReplyDeleteKeep telling yourself that duckmeister...
The real unemployment rate is comprised of the official unemployment rate, those employed part-time because they cannot find full-time work, and those marginally attached to the labor force: people who have stopped looking for work but would return to the labor force if jobs were available.
All told, the total number of Americans who are truly unemployed – those that make up the real unemployment rate – is now 26 million people, according to the Labor Department data.
Part-time jobs don't feed families.
