GOP Convention Unhinges the Left

Watching the left convulse into the galloping heebeegeebies over the goings on at the GOP convention is way more entertaining that watching the convention itself

Juan Williams’ attack on Ann Romney after her convention speech spurred Opus at American Perspective to repost an excerpt from William Sullivan’s American Thinker article, Juan Williams Spreads Democrats’ Racist Narrative.

That same day, Shaw reminded me that I am a fan of Dr. Michael Savage and that I often repeat his famous quote...
“Liberalism is a mental disorder.”
Liberal DNC pipe organs love intoning, ad nauseum, that the Romneys are not “ordinary people,” with the implication that like a Martian, Mitt’s not “one of us,” and is therefore not qualified to be president. It’s a jarring piece of psychological projection, given the left’s constant accusations that we on the right emphasize Obama’s “otherness” in order to marginalize and delegitimize him because we don’t like being ruled by a Marxist, black Muslim from Keyna. It’s helpful to remind our fellow citizens clinging to the unstable left fringes that the arugula-eating, metrosexual, well-connected, Ivy League Obamas didn't exactly jump out of a Dickens novel.

Those are the Wrong Kind of Rich People...

Why is it liberals have no problem with rich people who inherited it and then serially philander and disgrace themselves, driving their wives to alcoholism and in some cases suicide? Fat Teddy Kennedy was a drunken lout, callow woman-killer and serial rapist, but he gets a pass because he advanced the progressive agenda. Ducky is one of the few leftists honest enough to say this out loud.

How about rich liberals like Jon Corzine, who "lose" billions of dollars of other people's money and walk free because they are politically well-connected?

John Kerry has married up into money twice, and parks his yachts in other states to avoid taxes, yet he's a hero.

Bill Clinton plays hide the cigar with a barely legal intern, and "feminists" everywhere lionize him.

Compare this with Joe Liebermann, a pious and good man (even though I disagree with much of his politics) who is despised by his fellow Democrats because he won’t mindlessly march in lockstep with them.

The Romneys are good, God-fearing people, not a hint of scandal or bad behavior, and the liberals heap scorn upon them. Their only sin is being rich and Republican.

That contrast says a lot about the modern-day American left, doesn't it?

I’ll say it again: Liberalism is a mental disorder.

  4. Ryan told it just like it is. Liberal DEMS foam at the mouth when the truth surfaces. They are the biggest group of fools in the world.

The speeches by Condi Rice and Susana Martinez were excellent and only overshadowed by Paul Ryan. The Democrats in office are in deep doo doo and they know it. Ryan and Romney are smart, and capable. They have the experience and the wisdom to solve our economic woes. Obama and that idiot he drags along with him as his attack dog Biden have no clue. I just can't wait to vote for this team. and get rid of the two buffoons who are in office now..

The only hope we need is to elect Romney/Ryan and change the president and vice president

  9. I think that you're missing the Left's point. Silverfiddle, even if they come at it from precisely opposite side that I come at it from.

The only difference between the big money Democrats and big money Republicans is that the Democrats put their faith in Big unlimited Government and the Republicans in Big unlimited Corporations.

Big Corporations will enslave us 1,000x more efficiently than Government, no doubt about it. There are thousands more of them with more narrowly focused "spands of control". But is THAT the process we need to accelerate? The "Corporatization" and "Bureaucratization" of the world's economy?

Who can/will reign in the corporate overloards, the government overlords? Can't we limit BOTH to certain essential roles and responsibilities?

Rich people beyond a certain "limit" ARE a problem. Else Plato wouldn't have railed against "oligarchies" and advocated FOR timocracy.

  10. Great speeches, all lies.

The whole convention theme is based on a Fox News lie:

CONdi evoked 911 several times in her speech at the RNC but of course failed to mention Obama got bin Laden. But, O'Donnell nailed her before she even made the speech this morning:

Condi Rice Can’t Name A Specific Obama Foreign Policy Failure

  11. Skudrunner,

I like Savage for his non-political stuff, cooking, social commentary, rants, health and nutrition and food talk. It's what initially attracted me to him.

When he talks about events and comments on politics he is often wrong, and he is too quick to crap on his own side, but I understand that it comes from a crabby frustration.

I don't listen to anybody to be educated or told what to think. I listen to be entertained.

I became fed up with political commentary years ago, and I have not watched a Sunday morning show in probably ten years, and I haven't watched any "news" or political shows in probably six years.

I don't get a chance to listen to the radio during the day, but in the evenings when I'm paying bills or maybe cooking, I'll listen to the radio over the internet, and Savage has been a favorite, although I'm really liking Dennis Miller now as well.

  12. Thersites: I agree with you.

Who can/will reign in the corporate overloards, the government overlords? Can't we limit BOTH to certain essential roles and responsibilities?

We probably can't. Theoretically, we have the power to limit both.

Limit government by adhering to the constitution.

Now, with no special government favors, the marketplace really is free and the competition is real. The corporations are at our mercy, if there is a low bar to entry and no safety nets to catch those companies who fall. They can't survive without our money, and pitting the dirty bastards against one another is how we the consumer get the upper hand.

I know it's vastly more complex than that. Asking the rich and powerful to not use their wealth and power to their own advantage is futile and runs counter to human nature.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'll watch the GOP convention, listen to the speeches, etc. But all of this is wasted on me, I am what most pundits would call a member of Romney's 'base,' who would vote for him even if he were a murdering coward like Teddy Kennedy (although he's not).

I agree, but that isn't the way it works. The "special government favours" are needed to compete in a GLOBAL economy where governments DO actively advantage their "team".

The point is, to limit their access to certain vital American markets, lest there be no opportunities for individuals and small business entrepeneurs to emerge and compete.

HOWEVER, no corporation I know has the power to tax us into poverty, so I'll continue to favor Big Business over Big Brother or Government by Nurse Ratched until we could return to the glorious days before the Federal Reserve and the Income Tax followed by The SCREW DEAL were foisted on us by crafty crypto-Marxists.

I want to return to the time when the interest we accumulate on our back accounts -- and the profits we gained from RISKING the LOSS of our capital -- were not subject to taxation.

I want to return to a time when ambition, initiative, creativity, productivity and the acquisition, enjoyment and disposition of private property were not balked, hamstrung and bilked at every turn by the despotic nature of GOVERNMENT.

I want to return to the day when ambition, dedicated effort and success were rewarded and applauded instead of penalized and crippled.

The GOP convention features 19 women and 17 minorities in primetime speaking roles, including a slew of articulate, well informed, and admirable Hispanic-American conservative leaders (Susana Martinez, Marco Rubio, Luis Fortuno, Ted Cruz, etc) and yet the left still continues to harp on about how the GOP "hates" minorities and women. Even more revolting is MSNBC's "whites only" converage, blacking out every single speech at the convention delivered by a minority. The left should be absolutely ashamed of themselves and if Dr. King were here today, a REPUBLICAN I might add, he would be absolutely nauseated by the rhetoric of the left today.

And then Ducky, who is no genius, directs our attention to an article written by Matt Taibbi, who is nothing if not a bleeping lunatic. Evidence? Tossing a pie into the face of the Moscow Bureau Chief for the New York Times, writing “The 52 Funniest Things About the Upcoming Death of the Pope” and then attempting to justify writing such filth, and then Taibbi accosted journalist James Verini during an interview. I don't believe it is as simple as that, Thersites. I don't FEEL threatened by corporations -- certainly not as I do by government who has he power not only TOB me, but to cart me off to JAIL without due process if they decide I might be a "threat" -- or even just an annoyance.

"No matter what those in power may choose to are CALL it, our enemy is TYRANNY. It must be fought and demolished WHEREVER it surfaces -- Government, Corporate Power, the Church or Foreign Aggressors."

"Those who expect to reap the blessing of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."

    ~ Thomas Paine (1737-1809)

There are problems, deficiencies and injustice in ANY system yet devised.

The fact remains that SOMEONE has to be in charge. Eventually the very power of simply being in charge WILL corrupt that "someone," ergo periodically we must replace "someone" with "someone else."

HEAR the WORD of a GREAT SAGE:

"It would be a dangerous delusion were a confidence in the men of our choice to silence our fears for the safety of our rights: that confidence is everywhere the parent of despotism – free government is founded on jealousy, and not in confidence which prescribes limited constitutions . . . In questions of power then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him from mischief by the chains of the Constitution."

"What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."

“When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.”

    ~ Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)

I would never deny this: The MARRIAGE between gigantic, multinational corporations and increasingly dictatorial forms of government power truly IS assuming a position that will enable these forces to from an OLIGARCHY that has the entire world under its control.

Those who control NATURAL RESOURCES, the "COMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY" and the MONEY SUPPLY are our true masters. The rest is largely a Punch and Judy Show put on to distract the masses (that's us) from learning who the TRUE villains are in the piece.

I've seen that for forty years -- before it began to become "fashionable" to see it.

HOWEVER, of all the unattractive alternatives before us in the world of REALPOLITIK -- the ONLY reality in that dreary realm -- what the Republicans currently offer is considerably less unappealing than their nearest competitors.

Right NOW we ought to focus with LASER-LIKE INTENSITY on ONE goal alone:

6 Worst Lies In Paul Ryan’s Speech

By Aviva Shen on Aug 30, 2012 at 9:36 am

Vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) is taking flack on the morning news shows for his keynote address at the Republican National Convention Wednesday night. His speech was riddled with false claims, so much so that even Fox News wrote, “To anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech.”

Here are the most glaring lies from his speech:

    1. “A downgraded America.” Ryan blamed the president for the nation’s credit downgrade in August 2011 after Republicans threatened to allow the government to default on its debt for the first time in history. But the ratings agency explicitly blamed “Republicans saying that they refuse to accept any tax increases as part of a larger deal.”

    2. “More debt than any other president before him, and more than all the troubled governments of Europe combined.” Romney has made the almost identical claim, that Obama has amassed more debt “as almost all of the other presidents combined.” But their math doesn’t add up: when Obama took office, the national debt was $10.626 trillion. It has increased to slightly above $15 trillion.

    3. Shuttered General Motors plant is “one more broken promise.” Ryan described a GM plant that closed down in his hometown, Janesville, Wisconsin, and blamed Obama for breaking his promise to keep the plant open when he visited during his campaign. But Obama never made that promise, and the plant shut down in December 2008, before Obama even took office.

    4. Obama “did exactly nothing” on Bowles-Simpson. Ryan said, “He created a bipartisan debt commission. They came back with an urgent report. He thanked them, sent them on their way, and then did exactly nothing.” In fact, Ryan was instrumental in sabotaging the commission, leading the other House Republicans in voting against the plan.

    5. “$716 billion, funneled out of Medicare by President Obama.” Ryan’s favorite lie is a deliberate distortion of Obamacare’s savings from eliminating inefficiencies. Furthermore, Ryan’s own plan for Medicare includes these savings. Romney has vowed to restore these cuts, which would render the trust fund insolvent 8 years ahead of schedule.

    6. “The greatest of all responsibilities is that of the strong to protect the weak.” Ryan closed the speech with an invocation of social responsibility, saying, “The truest measure of any society is how it treats those who cannot defend or care for themselves.” However, numerous clergy members have condemned Ryan’s budget plan as “cruel,” and “an immoral disaster” because of its devastating cuts in social programs the poor and sick rely on. Meanwhile, Ryan would give ultra-rich individuals and corporations $3 trillion in tax breaks.

Where does the Constitution limit corporations...especially since the Supreme Court now deems them worthy of "rights"?

    ReplyDelete
  41. from Wiki

Corporate personhood is the legal concept that a corporation may sue and be sued in court in the same way as natural persons or unincorporated associations of persons. This doctrine in turn forms the basis for legal recognition that corporations, as groups of people, may hold and exercise certain rights under the common law and the U.S. Constitution. The doctrine does not hold that corporations are "people" in the literal sense, nor does it grant to corporations all of the rights of citizens. However, as interpreted by the the US Supreme Court, the doctrine provides corporations the right to secretly and with some limits - fund political campaigns.

    1. “A downgraded America.” refuse to accept any tax increases as part of a larger deal"

The republicans refused the tax increase because Obama would not agree to spending cuts.

    2. “More debt than any other president before him, and more than all the troubled governments of Europe combined.”

"when Obama took office, the national debt was $10.626 trillion. It has increased to slightly above $15 trillion."

That is 5 trillion in less than four years. That is more than any other president in history.

    Ryan was telling the truth

    3. Shuttered General Motors plant is “one more broken promise.” and the plant shut down in December 2008, before Obama even took office."

    Wrong again
So it seems workers at that GM plant in Janesville were indeed working in February of 2009. In fact, they worked on that joint GM/Isuzu project producing new vehicles until May 2009, under President Barack Obama.

    Ryan telling the truth

    4. Obama “did exactly nothing” on Bowles-Simpson. Ryan said, In fact, Ryan was instrumental in sabotaging the commission, leading the other House Republicans in voting against the plan."

Obama rejected the commission recommendations because it did not increase taxes but made them fairer to everyone and Obama couldn't accept that.

    Ryan telling the truth.

    5. “$716 billion, funneled out of Medicare by President Obama.”

The only way to pay for obamacare was to take from medicare and the ObamaCare's insurance coverage portions are expected to cost $51 billion more over 2012-2021 than the CBO estimated last year.

    6. “The greatest of all responsibilities is that of the strong to protect the weak.” Ryan would give ultra-rich individuals and corporations $3 trillion in tax breaks"

Obama had two years to change the tax code and did nothing. What he did was add a tax to small business and the middle class to pay for obamacare, remember he said there will be no tax increase to pay for obamacare.

The best way to increase revenue is to spur job growth but the incompetent incumbent can only propose taxing the rich and small business, his plan is working great.

Now that obama has a record of non-accomplishments he has to run on that record. Tough to create jobs in the private sector, even though the private sector is doing fine, when you have never had one.
