Here is how the native Pennsylvanian describes himself:
"A rather conservative libertarian with a keen interest in the restoration of Constitutional government in these United States."
His first post will be up Monday, and he'll be talking about voter fraud.
Here's a question to get people thinking ahead of his post:
If no ID should be required for for voting, what other activities should be an ID-free zone?
* Getting a passport?
* Buying cigarettes or booze?
* How about buying a firearm? Should that be a No ID Required activity as well?
Security clearances are already ID free zones. Just ask Barack.
ReplyDeleteI'll be looking forward to reading Viburnum's posts.
ReplyDeleteVenezuelhas had a national ID card (cedula) system for at least fifty years. I t must be shown for almost every thing including any purchase for WAT tax purposes. I don't see any problem national ID requirement.
I'm tired of being asked for photo ID when I make a withdrawal at the bank. What are they implying about me? Hey its my money! Just give it to me.
ReplyDeleteViburnum is an OUTSTANDING choice, and I will be pleased to read his posts. Western Hero is a fantastic blog because your team is really top notch.
ReplyDeleteI just updated my driver's license. I had to provide three separate identification documents to prove I am who I am. Was this a pain? No, not really. But now my driver's license is a validated photo ID for purposes of voting. This is the direction every state should be moving.
Welcome aboard, Viburnum!
I'm looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteWhat great good news!
ReplyDelete~ FreeThinke
Since I often (but not always) assign a nickname to bloggers with handles of more than 5 letters, Viburnum presents a challenge: 'Vibs?'
ReplyDelete'V-man?' I might actually have to put some thought into this one.
Great news!
ReplyDeleteI love Viburnum's comments!
This is very good news and a trend ...AOW started with the wonderful Sam Huntington posting at her blog and I got lucky with my fabulous friend Mustang posting at mine...and now Viburnum's here!
ReplyDeleteWhat really GREAT thinkers/writers our corner of the blogosphere has...and what great opportunities we have to feature that.
Just more Big Government loving Conservatisim. You don't need an ID to live in the United States. When Social Security was first implemented the creators expressly stated it was not a National ID system, original cards even have that typed upon them.
ReplyDeleteBut, having everyone catalogued and identified has been a goal of government bureaucrats and Corporate Behemoths to control, and extract as much money from Americans as possible.
And in step the Republicans to aid them!
I may quote you on Monday, Gene, -- along with a "letter to the editor" I received from a liberal friend [a Masshole, naturally!] on this very subject.
ReplyDeleteOur fate was settled and sealed on his score long ago -- by liberal Democrats -- when they initiated the Ponzi scheme we call Social Security.
It doesn't matter what anyone calls something, or what they say it means. All that matters is what it does.
RESULTS -- as always -- are ALL that COUNT.

Great choice, Kurt!
ReplyDeleteThanks everybody!
ReplyDeleteWe've got to amp up our game as the election approaches. Obama's mudball brigades and stinkbomb throwers are out in full force and they've already shown us that the truth means nothing to them, and they are contemptuous of honor and integrity.
This will be a dirty campaign, and we'll all be sick of it by election day.
Come to FreeThinke's blog and enjoy some much needed COMIC RELIEF.
ReplyDeleteToday we are presenting The Boston Beguine in honor os Ducky and Shaw, whom I know are bound to feel immensely flattered and gratified.
Come over, and have some god clean fun for a change.

Well, I guess Monday we get to look forward to a silly, moot, pack of lies.
ReplyDelete"His first post will be up Monday, and he'll be talking about voter fraud."
Right, but not real fraud.
"If no ID should be required for for voting, what other activities should be an ID-free zone?"
No one's is suggesting that, so I guess viburnum lives on another planet where that is an issue. It's just that certain types of ID requirements essentially disenfranchise millions of the elderly, the infirmed, the poor, and young people.
But then, that's what you guys want, right? That's what this sleazy, scummy, dishonest bullshit is all about, right?
JMJ
Thank you all. Well, mostly all. I'm as honored by your compliments as I am by Silver's invitation, and I hope to live up to your confidence.
ReplyDelete@ Jersey
Wrong on all counts. I won't disrupt SF's schedule by giving anything away, but you might pass the time 'til Monday by looking up the definition of the word: prejudice.
The pervasive bigotry of NO expectations.
ReplyDeleteYeah Jersey, Republicans want to disenfranchise old people, who usually vote Republican!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Monday! Maybe I should consider having a partner to blog with me? That's something to ponder about.
ReplyDeleteAs per the question, driving would be one, I suppose.
Nice try guys, but I'm not stupid. In reality, the voters, including the elderly, disenfranchised by these "voter fraud" snipe hunts are mostly Democratic. They are older Southern black people and older Northern white people, young urban people, and students, and the way these populations are balanced is directly correlated to the sleazy, scummy, anti-American "voter fraud" snipe hunts by state.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious.
Pennsylvania has the second oldest population in the nation. Then there's Florida, the first.
The Old South has a huge migrant worker population. Funny how things never change.
So, really, knock it off. It's off-putting.
Make your case and if people like it, they'll vote for it. We are a democracy at heart, after all. If you are asserting you're rights are being violated, then prove it. If you can't, then as you guys like to say "STFU."
Prove your particular concern about a certain type of voter fraud is a serious concern, or shut the fuck up. ;)

ReplyDeleteOOOOOH! I would never say that, if I were you.
It's palpably untrue.

I'm constantly amazed at ignorant people who comment on others blogs and then tell everyone to STFU. If you don't like what one says in their own house, then go post your crap on your own place.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how much of a bigot one must be to believe blacks are too inept to obtain free voter ID.
"FreeThinke," if there's one thing I love about your moniker, it's how it advertises your schitzyness.
ReplyDeleteHow's about this? How's about you not quote some retro-pop-intellectual bullshit and actually speak of real bottom lines for a fuckin' change?
JMJ
@Rita: I can't imagine how much of a bigot one must be to believe blacks are too inept to obtain free voter ID.
ReplyDeleteWell said!
I dated a Rita years ago. You're not Mescalero Apache are you?
Rita: "I can't imagine how much of a bigot one must be to believe blacks are too inept to obtain free voter ID."
ReplyDeleteReally. And all the while pretending otherwise.
SF: not unless she was a blonde. ;)
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine anyone being against voter ID if anything just to maintain voter integrity. Why wouldn't someone be against someone voting who isn't legal or votes more than once or as you said on Z's blog SF-Dead People.
ReplyDeleteI guess the only ones I can think of are democrats.
Rita: No, she was 100% Mescalero, straight, jet-black hair.
ReplyDeleteBut she had a quick mind like you!
Nice try guys, but I'm not stupid.
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't think you give yourself enough credit, Jersey. Sure you are.
"I can't imagine how much of a bigot one must be to believe blacks are too inept to obtain free voter ID."
ReplyDeleteOr can't survive without welfare.
Or need Jesse Jackson's advice
Or still need affirmative action for a job..
right, Rita!?
"The soft bigotry of low expectations" is what Bush once said...not sure it the line was his or not, but he was so right.
SF...dating an Apache sounds so romantic! :-)
Z: It wasn't really, but I did end up being good friends with her brother Ricky.
ReplyDeleteHer whole family was really good people. I remember having a nice Easter Sunday with them all, and it made my grandma happy that I had spent that day with a nice family.
Well, as long as Ricky wasn't romantic :-)
ReplyDeleteWere they Christian Apache, SF?
I understand Native American food is very unusual and good...did you have any? I've always been very interested in American Indians...
Yep Z. Except it's not even soft bigotry now. It's become crippling.
ReplyDeleteZ: Based upon my limited experience, Indians in New Mexico are Hispanicized, so they have Hispanic names and many are Catholic. I guess it makes sense. The Spanish were the first Europeans there, and they established schools and towns and converted the native people to their European ways.
ReplyDeleteOf course, they also maintain their distinct culture as well, the Pueblo moreso than the Mescaleros.
The Pueblo are native to the area, the Mescalero are transplants, or I think some of them are. They did roam around a larger area that just where their reservation is now.
If Finn is reading this he can probably bring his encyclopedic knowledge to the discussion. He was also stationed down there.
But you are right, it's a fascinating area.
Welcome Viburnum! Great choice Silverfiddle.

Can't get a photo ID but can manage to do all the paperork to get Medicare/Medicaid
Can't get a photo ID but can fill out all the student loan/grant paperwork and get a student ID
Urban people? Yeah, it's so hard to get an ID in an area you can either walk to or ride public transportation...
Nice try
Sam and I agree about Jersey's "I'm not stupid" remark. The only difference between us is that I don't think Sam is kidding.
