Think of it this way.
Every time a Conservative-Libertarian smiles, laughs, expresses gratitude and joy, or takes a kick in the shins with good grace and a touch of humor, a Marxian-Socialist-Liberal-Progressive-Statist somewhere curses, stamps his foot, pulls out his hair, howls with indignation and remains dyspeptic and disconsolate for at least a week. ;-)
The Kingdom of God (i.e. Joy everlasting!) is within ALL of us.
I wish you Avery happy Thanksgiving Nd to all your commenters as well. We can get back yo politics next week, until then let's give thanks to what we have here in this great and wonderful country .
We can get Mince (assuming we mean the same thing) easily over here. I am apparently in disgrace for making a batch of mince pies with bought mince instead of making my own though... to be fair it doesn't look that hard. Fruit, suet, spice, booze.
Mincemeat is for mature, highly developed palates. I disliked it as a child -- too vinegary at that stage. Today I prefer it to pumpkin, but not to the pumpkin CHIFFON pie my mother used to make from a recipe she found in The Woman's Home Companion Cookbook back in the 1940's.
I made it once, myself, and it was a LOT of work. My mother, even though she was a "fashion plate" in her day, was much given to performing great Labors of Love in the kitchen, God bless her!
In latter years, I developed a recipe of my own for cranberry, apple, raisin, walnut pie wit a pinwheel crust that frankly is to die for -- especially when served with a dollop of genuine whipped cream.
Best of all the tart-sweet holiday desserts, though is good old-fashioned English Plum Pudding served with my grandmother's brandied hard sauce.
If you make fruitcake, by the way, it should already be made by now, wrapped in cloths liberally soaked in rum or brandy, or it won't be worth much on The Great Day.

I like Mince! But you're right, it is getting harder and harder to find, especially the non-vegetarian kind.
