Forget $600 Toilet Seats

The GAO Reports:

The Pentagon purchased 1500 gallons of bio-jet fuel at a rate of $150/gallon.  Keep in mind that regular jet fuel is going for $2.88 a gallon. This follows a previous report by Reuters that the Air Force purchased 11,000 gallons of an alcohol based jet fuel for $59 dollars a gallon.  For the Navy's "Great Green Fleet" experiment, it purchased 450,000 gallons of fuel at roughly $26/gallon.

Undocumented Subsidies?

In the Air Force case the fuel was purchased from a company Gevo, Inc that is backed by big money Democratic donor Vinod Khosla.
