Implied by your statements is that the agent should have done nothing, despite the law.

It is not the agent's responsibility to interpret the law. The agent was just doing her job (or was being a petty, power mad bureaucrat...we'll never know) but the issue was resolved satisfactorily.

The whole incident is a non-event.

I'll agree it silly for police to be shutting down lemonade stands run by little kids. Kind of over the top if its on the road in front of their house. But if it was at a public event (one news article was about children at a town sponsored bicycle race), which the government leases vendor space, for which you paid 50...100...150 dollars for a permit, how would you feel if an 11 year old kid set up their lemonade stand next to your booth undercutting your prices by 90%?

I occasionally volunteer my time working vendor stands for charity at local college sporting events. It is standard practice and the profits all go to charity. We are not allowed to undercut paying commercial vendors, the prices are set in the conditions of the permit. Kids should be allowed to undercut that? Just because they are kids?

The situations are often more complicated than you may think.

You may disagree with permitting, or with the government selling vendor space...but think of the free for all if there were not any controls at all.

Cheers!Finntannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09234170229108668040noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7674333464171899932.post-16419106261663928302011-08-02T22:44:42.049-06:002011-08-02T22:44:42.049-06:00There must be a specific term for people who habit...There must be a specific term for people who habitually attribute thoughts to others those others may or may not think, and who act as though others have said things they did not actually say, but go on to argue vehemently against such attributions as though they were established fact, but I don't know what it is. The old lady was just "visited" by a social worker who seems to want to have the woman declared incompetent, then have her dragged from the property she's owned for many years and thrown into a State-Run Facility -- "for her own good," of course.

My friend's husband, who is in his early seventies, is now being forced to make an expensive trip to Michigan, and hire an attorney to see if he can't find a way to stop his mother from being railroaded out of her home. Take a look a this:

Woodpecker-Saving Girl's Mother Gets Fined $500

2:34 PM, Aug 2, 2011 |

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WUSA) -- Eleven-year-old aspiring veterinarian, Skylar Capo, sprang into action the second she learned that a baby woodpecker in her Dad's backyard was about to be eaten by the family cat.

"I've just always loved animals," said Skylar Capo. "I couldn't stand to watch it be eaten."

Skylar couldn't find the woodpecker's mother, so she brought it to her own mother, Alison Capo, who agreed to take it home.

"She was just going to take care of it for a day or two, make sure it was safe and uninjured, and then she was going to let it go," said Capo.

But on the drive home, the Capo family stopped at a Lowes in Fredericksburg and they brought the bird inside because of the heat. That's when they were confronted by a fellow shopper who said she worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

"She was really nervous. She was shaking. Then she pulled out a badge," said Capo.

The problem was that the woodpecker is a protected species under the Federal Migratory Bird Act. Therefore, it is illegal to take or transport a baby woodpecker.

The Capo family says they had no idea.

"I was a little bit upset because I didn't want my mom to get in trouble," said Skylar.

So as soon as the Capo family returned home, they say they opened the cage, the bird flew away, and they reported it to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

"They said that's great, that's exactly what we want to see," said Capo. "We thought that we had done everything that we could possibly do."

But roughly two weeks later, that same woman from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service showed up at Capo's front door. This time, Capo says the woman was accompanied by a state trooper. Capo refused to accept a citation, but was later mailed a notice to appear in U.S. District Court for unlawfully taking a migratory bird. She's also been slapped with a $535 fine.

"I feel harassed and I feel angry," said Capo. ...

Finish the story here:

http://wusa9.com/news/article/161065/158/Woodpecker-Saving-Daughter-Costs-Mom-500

Submitted by FreeThinkeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7674333464171899932.post-40446542168867037752011-08-02T16:58:44.085-06:002011-08-02T16:58:44.085-06:00" ...
