Obama's Economy is So Bad...

...We Need a Fence to Keep The Illegal Immigrants In!

Yes, many immigrants here illegally have chosen self-deportation, according to Michael Barone's reading of the latest Pew Research results...

from 2005 to 2010 some 1.39 million people came from Mexico to the United States and 1.37 million went from the U.S. to Mexico. "The largest wave of immigration in history from a single country to the United States," they write, "has come to a standstill."
The turning point seems to have come with the collapse of housing prices and the onset of recession in 2007. Annual immigration from Mexico dropped from peaks of 770,000 in 2000 and 670,000 in 2004 to 140,000 in 2010.
As a result, the Mexican-born population in the United States decreased from 12.6 million in 2007 to 12.0 million in 2010. That decrease consisted entirely of Mexican-born illegal immigrants, whose numbers decreased from 7 million in 2007 to 6.1 million in 2010. (RCP - Michael Barone)
Politicans Play Politics...
Many Washington Republicans confuse voter opposition to illegal immigration with opposition to all immigration. Their remarks often contain an ugly tone toward those who want to come to America.
Many Washington Democrats confuse public respect for hardworking immigrants with a belief that borders and immigration laws don't matter. Their remarks often contain an ugly tone toward those who believe the nation's immigration laws should be enforced. (Scott Rasmussen)
We The People are Smarter and More Nuanced...

The Arizona Immigration Law is Persistently Popular:
In national polls, there have consistently been more supporters than opponents of the Arizona law, with the latest polls showing higher support than at any point since its passage. More than two-thirds of registered voters (68 percent) approved of the law in an April Quinnipiac poll, while only about a quarter disapproved (27 percent). (Washington Post)
But Scott Rasmussen sees no hate for immigrants, but rather anger at a government that refuses to enforce the laws it passes:
That's why, among voters who are angry about the immigration issue, 83 percent are angry at the federal government rather than the illegal immigrants themselves.
It's also why two-thirds of voters think those who knowingly hire illegal immigrants are a bigger problem than the people they employ.
Simply put, most Americans are angry at those who would entice others to break the law. They're not angry at people who are willing to work hard to provide for their families.  (Scott Rasmussen
I think that sums it up pretty well.  I like Mexicans, and Guatemalans, and others who come here from south of our border.  They are industrious people, we share the common values of Western Christendom, and Hispanics assimilate easily into our society, even as we adopt some of their culture, like food and music.

Where we find them mooching and gaming the system, it's a sure bet progressive government busybodies are behind it.  There are no safety nets in Central America, and these are resourceful people with a moral foundation.  We worry that they are dragging down our society?  We are dragging them down!

Stricter border and workplace enforcement, cutting off freebees, and having an efficient immigration system that keeps track of visitors would slow illegal immigration to a trickle.  This would allow our Latin American cousins, who don't want citizenship anyway, to get work permits and visitor visas so they can come and go with their heads held high.  This would respect the law as well as the human dignity of all, draining the heat and the pressure from the issue...

...But then our politicians could no longer exploit it for narrow partisan purposes...

Never heard a better description of Hispanics. I like them more than most traditional European Americans. They far exceed any other immigrant class in my opinion. And the food is to die for as you know!

The book Mexifornia, written some time ago, makes the case that we are, in effect, creating a slave class by encouraging illegal immigration. I highly recommend the book.

One way or another we need to find "replacements" for our declining birth rate. We better figure out soon who it will be soon or we will turn out like Europe.

"politicians...exploit...partisan purposes."

That sums up why immigration reform will always be dead on arrival. It's in the best interest of the politicians to give people "free" stuff for staying here.

I live in upper Manhattan and the neighborhood is predominantly Hispanic (Dominican) with some Mexicans. Hispanics are actually a lot more conservative than the average white person.

Unfortunately they will continue to vote Democratic because the Democrats are very good at painting Republicans as racist.

Thersites said...

They should be homo sacer, but the government keeps treating them as if they were citizens... personally, I don't get it.

That the government prefers to both recognize AND exclude illegals shows you just how out of touch with their own responsibilities they have become.

And that, SilverFiddle, is as good a summary of the problem as one could ever hope to find.

You put your finger RIGHT on it. It's the MARXISTS who've made a problem out of what very frankly had been a great asset.

The problem is NOT Illegal Immigration, it's WELFARE STATISM.

Most of the "illegal aliens" WERE decent, hardworking, good-natured individuals who came here NOT to "game the system" but to WORK.

Conditions, apparently, were so poor in their places of origin that doing menial work here looked very attractive to them. They were GRATEFUL to get a chance to earn what--by-their-standards was a decent living -- something they could NOT do South of the Border.

So what happens?

American EMPLOYERS, bedeviled by the effects of unionism and excessive government interference through over-regulation, saw these "undocumented" workers as a GODSEND.

EVERYBODY was happy -- EMPLOYERS and EMPLOYEES alike -- UNTIL the goddam NANNYCRATS started dangling food stamps, free medical care, free access to public education, and actual "free" MONEY to LURE pregnant women into the country in order to besiege us with hundreds of thousands of ANCHOR BABIES -- every one of them Welfare Dependent.

Now why would the effin Nannycrats want to do a thing like that?

Do you REALLY believe their desire is to "help the poor and downtrodden?"

If you think that, I have a beautiful old bridge in Brooklyn I'd be glad to sell you for a VERY good price.

Their long range plan is to swell the voter rolls with so many "grateful" Hispanics that PERMANENT DEMOCRATIC INCUMBENCY will be GUARANTEED from ow till DOOMSDAY.

It is the machinations of UNIONS and SOCIAL ENGINEERS that have caused and continue to EXACERBATE this problem. It is NOT evil, selfish motives on the part of Hispanics OR US Employers.

The fault lies in the class of Professional Busybodies who took over this country long long ago and have done nothing but wreak havoc.

Kurt is right about the corrupting influence OUR government has had on illegal immigrants. They were AOK until Welfare Statism turned too many of them into just another in the ever-burgeoning bunches of bums sucking on the Government's Tits.

And if formerly spoiled American workers want to bitch about "unfair competition" either from illegal immigrants or workers overseas from REAL "slave states" they need blame only the grasping, thuggish, thoroughly corrupt nature of The Labor Movement for their troubles.

If it weren't for the constant interference from power mad Legislators and the Almighty State Bureaucrats these legislators create, most of or problems would take care of themselves.

Dr. Lewis Thomas, famed poet, essayist and longtime Director of The Sloane-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research in New York City said, "The best kept secret in the field of medicine is that most things get better by themselves."

I would say the same for most economic and "social" problems. These things would be SELF-LEVELING if it were not for our bungling, ham-fisted interference in processes of Natural Selection.

The perplexing point is that your solution is reasonably and relatively straightforward to implement.

So what happened? The situation exists for a reason. A powerful group wants this to happen.

Someone wants the labor.

But we aren't going to get out of this as long as the extremists like the governor of Arizona is letting Freethinker and his silver shirts have the floor.

Wow Ducky the Arizona Governor and Freethinker are Extremists but Farrakhan,Bill Ayers , Rev Wright, and Frank Marshall Davis are what, the "normal" people?

Obama's economy is so bad even he doesn't' want to talk about it.

Lynching blacks used to be popular also. Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's right. Fear of immigration and immigrants has been fostered by Republicans. Can't wait for the Republican "FDR" type government work force that will build a 2,000 mile wall. Republicans have destroyed our economy, so we no longer have an immigration problem.

Instead of trying to deal with myriad specifics -- like treating members of a cloud of gnats individually -- we need to get back to basics and understand that flagrant, officially sanctioned violation of fundamental moral principles and deliberate abandonment of the dictates of common sense have put us where we are today.

No matter how desperately we want the dirt in our yard or the gravel in our driveway to turn into gold now amount of wishing, whining -- or legislation -- could ever make it so.

Legislators, avid to win permanent incumbency through the undying loyalty of their "ignostituents," could pass laws against cancer and cardiovascular disease with no better effect than any of the other worthless, exorbitantly expensive, hare-brained schemes for "social reform" they've already burdened us with.

Does anyone know what a "Silvershirt" might be? Despite being accused -- twice now in as many days -- of wearing one, I haven't the foggiest notion what might the term might mean.

But then, I always do my best to write in English and avoid buzzwords, slang and jargon all of which tend to have a markedly degenerative effect on the language.

It might mean donning Shining Armor like the Knights of Old, but coming, as it does, from a well-known source of moral and intellectual and sepsis I doubt the allusion was meant to be so flattering.

It's always a good idea to define terms before using them in public statements.

The Silver Legion of America, commonly known as the Silver Shirts, was an underground American fascist organization founded by William Dudley Pelley in the 1930s. Silver Shirts were modeled after Hitler's Brownshirts. They are more akin to the National Socialists of the Obama administration and New Black Panther Party, IMO.

Silver, your preaching to the choir.

It's time that our laws on immigration get reinforced and tougher.

I welcome them here, but legally. The illegals that work her, have babies here and get all these benefits, wind up sending most of their money home.

And the American worker who has no choice but to pay taxes is supporting that.

Jersey McJones said...

Well that got silly.

You know, Silver, when you write a title like that, you have to expect insanity. It comes with the hits.

And, of course, you know President Obama, as it is today, has very little impact on the general economy.

You point out the decrease in immigration as proof of Obama's ostensible follies, knowing full well he and his administration have very little to do with it, and in what ways they do have an impact, they tow your boat - illegal immigration law enforcement.

So what a pile of bullshit.

We have less immigration today because our economy is shrinking, and it's been shrinking for years now. The disparity of wealth we have today is comparable to many a point in history when it all came crashing down.

You flat-tax, free-trade, un-regulation/deregulation, "classical liberals" are to blame for all this mess. Stop pretending this is "Obama's economy." Be honest.

Anonymous said...

No choice? Who did you vote for the last 30 years?

@ Jersey: You flat-tax, free-trade, un-regulation/deregulation, "classical liberals" are to blame for all this mess.

No. Government demanding banks abandon responsible lending standards are to blame, along with a government that bails out wall street when they shoot craps.

And Obama is to blame. Saying a president has no control over an economy, to use your words is plain stupid. Only a moron would believe that!

Ducky's here said...

I'm sorry, Silverfiddle, but you're full of shit.

Countrywide, Ameriquest and the entire American investment banking industry were under government regulation? That statement is so bizarre it ha to be called stupid.

These jerks were making so much peddling subprime paper that they just couldn't stop themselves and their Ayn Rand dick sucker, Allen Greenspan, wouldn't put the brakes on. Self correcting markets (LMFAO) you know.

Then the clowns at Fannie and Freddie who had told the market they could double the stock price in a few years saw their share of the mortgage game shrinking so they had to start cooking the books.

Even free market (LMFAO) blow hole Greenspan admitted he was wrong. The market could not self correct.

So let us know Silverfiddle, should the prez have let Wall St. go down and destroy the international banking finance system? You got a good stash of gold and T-bills in your safe deposit box?

So stick to the tired story that the bad bad government MADE UNREGULATED mortgage writers loan money to poor communities or whatever else you are pushing but isn't t time to wise up and admit you have this wrong?

As for Jersey's contention that prime hiring sectors are shrinking, hard to argue with that.

Destroy a few hundred thousand more poor corn farmers so Midwestern agriculture welfare queens can fatten up. But NAFTA was Obama's work.

Man, you are going to love getting a plank shoved up your ass along with many of your posers during a Romney presidency. It's going to hurt, man.

Why say sorry for stating the truth?

Thank you for the information Mustang. Never in all my seventy-one years have heard of such an organization. I guess it had little or no impact in the way we live our lives. I imagine only people who specialize in acting as agitators and irritants would know about anything like that -- or care to know about it.

While I often find myself wishing fervently for the power to strike down bald-faced lies, utterances of harmful ideas, and obliterate pointless remarks made solely to annoy, I then think of these words, which most of the time give me pause for thought:

"We can never be sure that the opinion we wish to stifle is a false opinion; and if we were sure, stifling it would be an evil still."

~ John Stuart Mill (1806-1873)

"If there is any principle of the Constitution that more imperatively calls for attachment than any other it is the principle of free thought – not free thought for those that agree with us, but freedom for the thought that we hate."

~ Oliver Wendell Holmes (1841-1935)

Even so, I still think it would have spared us a tremendous amount of grief and unnecessary expense, if we'd been able to throttle the voices advocating Marxism, and put the Communist Party in the same class with the Mafia where surely it belongs.

Likewise the establishment of Islam as an aggressive social and political force.

Certain modes of thought and belief are easily comparable cancer.

What do we do if we detect cancer in the body at an early stage?

We either cut it out surgically, burn it with radiation or poison it to death with chemotherapy.

Once cancer establishes itself and starts to grow and metastasize the victim's life is threatened, and, except in rare instances, early death is almost inevitable.

So, once again we find there's a paradox at the heart of the great dilemma. Do we martyr ourselves in obedient service to our Christian ideals and Founding principles, or do we transform ourselves into ruthless monsters in order to protect our individual lives, our fortunes, our property rights, and our territorial integrity?

There are NO easy answers, are there?

~ FreeThinke

The paradox is unsettling; free society must be permitted to foment the ideas and behaviors that will ultimately destroy free society.

I've told you what I recommend, and I admit it's no silver buller. There is no such thing.

Good statist that you are, you recommend more of the same. More cowbell! More government!

Your progressive way has failed, and yes, we should have let them crash, left with nothing. Hopefully a whole bunch of Obama worshiping bankers would have offed themselves and the world would now be on the path to a recovery, not mired in a progressive wealth-destroying nightmare.

I only wish it were that simple! But "he" is not really the problem, "He" is only the tip of the iceberg -- or a tiny infected pimple on Satan's great big behind.

The entire Establishment -- D and R alike -- is rotten to the core. It's been bought and paid for by Forces Unseen and largely Unknown long ago. We, the People, have no say in our governance anymore, and haven't had for a very long time.

Our Achilles Heel, of course, has been The Negro Problem. THAT is now "they" got their hooks into us, and THAT is how they will ultimately destroy us.

And believe me I do not advocate a return to Jim Crow or anything as mean as stupid as that. Blacks have been every bit as much the victim in this struggle as the rest of us.

"They" have successfully pitted White against Black in ways that only increase their" power.
