On December 7th 1941 this song was top of the charts and quite likely playing on the radio.

By the 23rd we were listening to music like this:

In 1944 we were longing for A Sentimental Journey

And in December 1945 Karl (Davis) and Harty (Taylor) released this number:

Armed Forces Radio: V-E Day

Yesterday, 70 years ago, the Allied Armies achieved victory in Europe.  The musical selections below are in memory of that event.

We start in 1939 with They'll Always Be An England

That's followed up by We'll Meet Again, another song by Dame Vera Lynn that was popular in 1940.

In 1941 with war looming The Andrew Sisters were wowing audiences with Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, believe it or not the song was actually first recorded on January 2,1941.

In 1942 Kaye Kyser and his Orchestra were singing Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition.

In 1943 Spike Jones was going Heil in Der Fuehrer's Face.

By 1944 Johnny Mercer was trying to Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive.

We'll end with a short film made by the US War Department in 1945 shortly before V-Day.  Directed by Frank Capra and written by Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.
