Law-abiding immigrants stand in line while Obama coddles people who came here illegally

While the administration struggles to move forward with its plan to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants, the list of foreigners trying to get into the United States legally has surged to 4.4 million, over 100,000 more than last year, according to the State Department.

Those on the list either have a family member who is a U.S. citizen or green card holder, sponsoring their entry, or an employer wants them.  (Washington Examiner)

Here's my favorite part:

And more than a quarter of them, 1,323,978, are Mexican.

The State Department should strike every one of those Mexicans from the list and tell them that fellow Mexicans who were smart enough to sneak over the border used up their quota.

Other thoughts...

* We The People should force government to decrement its immigration quota by every illegal they let in.

* If Mexico continues to facilitate illegal entry into the United States, we should deny their oligarchs entry visas.  If they want to shop here, get medical care or take the family to Disney World, let them sneak in like everybody else.  Same for other countries sending their people here illegally.

*  Who is for welcoming the illegal immigrants among us?  C'mon, raise your little paws!  That includes you, congresspeople and senators.  OK.  One, two, three...  Keep those hands up.  Good.  Every one of you who support welcoming illegal immigrants must sign up to take care of a family, house them in your home, teach them English and support them until they can get on their feet.

How many non-citizens participate in U.S. elections? More than 14 percent of non-citizens in both the 2008 and 2010 samples indicated that they were registered to vote. Furthermore, some of these non-citizens voted. Our best guess, based upon extrapolations from the portion of the sample with a verified vote, is that 6.4 percent of non-citizens voted in 2008

National Review

Non-citizen votes could have given Senate Democrats the pivotal 60th vote needed to overcome filibusters in order to pass health-care reform and other Obama administration priorities in the 111th Congress. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) won election in 2008 with a victory margin of 312 votes. Votes cast by just 0.65 percent of Minnesota non-citizens could account for this margin.

Voter ID?

Of the 27 non-citizens who indicated that they were “asked to show picture identification, such as a driver’s license, at the polling place or election office,” in the 2008 survey, 18 claimed to have subsequently voted, and one more indicated that they were “allowed to vote using a provisional ballot.” Only 7 (25.9%) indicated that they were not allowed to vote after showing identification.

Guatemalan President Otto Perez wants 10 billion, 2 billion a year from 2015-2019 to stop the flow of illegal immigrants.

The United States has to support this, it has no other option," Guatemala's foreign minister, Carlos Morales, told Reuters. "If they don't support it, the crisis will kick off again, you can count on it."

Central American leaders are due to meet Vice President Joe Biden on Nov. 12 in Washington to sound out U.S. support for their plan, Morales added.  YAHOO

I have a better idea, how about we ship back all we catch and impose sanctions?  We might still have an illegal immigrant problem, but it won't be benefiting you Culero.

Meet Israel Andrade, poster boy for the Department of Homeland Insecurity.  Four time deportee that came back across the border a fifth time, broke into a home and molested a nine year old girl.  He still had her panties in his pocket when arrested. 

Aside from first wanting to step forward and volunteer to put a bullet in his head, let me say this:

A US-Sponsored Humanitarian Crisis

Our United States government has created a humanitarian crisis. 

A mother and child told CHANNEL 5 NEWS that the message being disseminated in their country is, "go to America with your child, you won't be turned away."

The woman, Nora Griselda Bercian Diaz, from Guatemala, said she endured threats from the Zetas and extortion from corrupt Mexican police. She eventually crossed the Rio Grande with her 6-year-old Delmi Griselda Paul Bercian by her side.

The woman said she wants a U.S. education for her daughter.

Bercian Diaz said they found corruption in the Mexican government.

"They were asking for 500 pesos, 600 pesos. The federals took that money from us," she said.

She said the Mexican federal police and immigration officers asked for money to "turn the other way."

"The immigration officers took 1,500 pesos," Bercian Diaz said.

She said the threat of rape and kidnapping haunted them every day.

OBAMA'S HUNGER GAMES

The bloodthirsty US Torture Chamber of Crony Commerce, in cahoots with cynical politicians looking to pad their voting rolls, have encouraged the ongoing human rights abuse known as illegal immigration.  The result is a flashing neon Welcome sign at our border.  This didn't start with Obama; he's just turbo-charged it. 

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Obama's sin is that he purposely provoked this all-out humanitarian crisis.  He raised expectations by policy and by pronouncements in a cynical gambit to overwhelm our immigration system.  And it worked.  People were robbed, beaten, raped and murdered trying to get here, eager participants in the United States of America's Hunger Games, the finish line plastered over with corporate logos, and your prize?  Grinding poverty, cramped apartments, low pay and abuse from criminal employers who do not want to pay a living wage.

What is the root cause?  Why are people from Mexico and Central America coming here?

Poverty and corrupt institutions are easy answers, but they don't tell the whole story.

We have a conveyor belt of criminality running between the US and Central America.  Refugees poured into the US from the wars of the 1980's, many of the youth got a college-level education in criminality from US gangs and from our prison system, and took it back home, and it continues today. 

American nativists see these people as corrupting and dirtying our society, but it's the other way around.  I've known people from all over Central America since the 1980's.  We corrupted them.  The criminal activity in their nations paled in comparison to our gang-fueled violence.  And that's quite an accomplishment when you consider these people have seen civil war and death squads. 

Drugs and people come north because we demand them.  We snort the drugs up our noses and outsource the training of the young men to street gangs and prisons, and then we send the hyper-violent graduates back south to prey on their societies who do not have the law enforcement and criminal justice resources to handle the unprecedented levels of criminality.

We are an open sewer pipe, dumping our cultural sewage on people not prepared for it.  We are a sick and violent nation.  Our popular culture celebrates wealth, crime, gangs, misogyny and violence.  We've been dumping this garbage on our neighbors to the south for decades, and now we're reaping the results.

Nothing less than coordinated government action between the US and the nations of Mexico and Central America will get this under control.  We are providing limited law enforcement assistance, but a social conflagration of this magnitude requires a Marshall Plan.

Obama’s Dream Act gambit is a bald-faced political ploy to make up for his immigration enforcement sins

Obama’s imperial Dream Act decree is fraught with danger and rife with loopholes, not to mention that it deals with a murky world where facts cannot be established and documentation fabrication is rife. This is a perfect example of why our government was not designed to be run by dictatorial fiat. Open hearings where experts for all sides can testify is how policies like this must be enacted in a democratic republic.

Mickey Kaus provides damning details on Obama’s immigration diktat:

It also would give work permits to those who snuck across the border by themselves as teenagers. “Through no fault of their own” is a talking point for DREAM proselytizers, not an actual legal requirement. (Kausfiles – Maddening Details)

He goes on to explain that “Continuous residence” doesn’t mean what we think it does. Even those who returned home (wait, I thought this place was their home?) and then came back are still eligible. Also, criminals are not excluded so long as their jail stay was less than 90 days.

The Obama Administration has done a pretty good job on immigration

I want to give President Obama credit. About 1/3 of jobs filled in the US now use e-verify, and under the Obama administration, government immigration audits of companies has increased. I applaud this approach. I don’t like workplace raids, with armed federales storming workplaces like this is some third-world dictatorship.

E-Verify cracks down on identity theft and reuse of dead people’s social security numbers, which is how illegal immigrants get “legal” documentation. The immigration audits do the same kind of checks on a company’s personnel data. When an auditor finds a discrepancy, he asks to interview the employee in question. If the employee is using bogus data, he takes a powder. If it is a mistake, the employee comes forward and the situation is resolved.

This two-pronged approach is the intelligent and efficient way to go about it. Add in some smart border control and we would have the problem of illegal immigration contained. I’m not so adamant on The Fence. An 11 foot ladder overcomes a 10 foot fence. What I am for is to stop spying on Americans with all those drones and instead press them into service on the border. Add in sensors on the ground, command and control networks, National Guard augmentation, and you have something much more effective than a fence.

Once people know that they cannot get a job or social services using bogus credentials, they will stop coming here illegally. With the border secured and our immigration situation under control, we can then allow in people who want to work or visit relatives. Most importantly, they can enter and travel freely with dignity, as befits this land of the free and home of the brave.

Illegal Immigration Benefits all Americans

Democrats, and skeptical Republicans, are making much of Romney’s bobbing and weaving this past Sunday on the immigration issue and Obama’s decree that those brought here as children be shielded from deportation and given legalized status. I’m not defending Romney, he’s a politician in the arena so he’s fair game for the rotten eggs flung his way.

People on all sides want to paint this as a black and white issue, but it’s not. We have laws on the books, but we don’t enforce them, making a mockery of not just immigration laws, but all laws. Illegal immigration has a corrosive effect on our society and our souls.

Progressive nanny-staters and the Chamber of Commerce form an unholy alliance to continue bringing in second-class citizens so we can exploit them for cheap labor and add them to the cohort of government wards. We are collectively committing a human rights abuse on a grand scale. Yes, “they” come here illegally, but we put the come-hither on ‘em, we beckon them. Border enforcement is paltry, worker verification a joke, social welfare readily available with no questions asked, free school and medical care, housing and food assistance…

Can you blame people coming here illegally? 

 Put yourself in the shoes of a mom or dad. They improve their quality of life by simply crossing the border, and from their reasoned point of view, the American government can’t be serious about its laws when they give illegal immigrants access to all the same stuff a citizen gets?

Really, what separates an illegal immigrant from a citizen? They’re normalized! They work, own houses and cars and their kids graduate high school and college. They just have to look over their shoulders every now and then.

We can’t punish the children for the crimes of the parent, say those who want to legalize people brought here as children. But children are punished all the time for their parents mistakes. Parents who act irresponsibly can drive the family to poverty; the children pay. Parents who commit crimes go to jail and leave parentless children behind, so this argument doesn’t hold up.

On the other hand, does it make sense to send a person back to a country he or she has never been to? Especially if that person is a productive member of our society and we encouraged the parents to come here?

The battle lines are drawn: Liberals who have no respect for the rule of law except when it benefits them want all immigrants legalized because they need new voters. Or maybe it’s compassion? Conservatives want them all deported because rightwingers hate everybody that doesn’t look and talk like them. Or maybe they hold the quaint idea that laws should be enforced?

The Simple Solution

The simple solution is to protect our borders and enforce existing immigration law. Put worker verification in place nation-wide. Our banking system of ATMs and debit and credit cards works almost flawlessly, and you’re going to tell me we can’t verify if someone is legally entitled to work in the US or not? We have the technology. We also have to put policies in place to determine status before doling out government assistance.

If conservatives saw that government was enforcing the law, most would probably accede to liberal demands to legalize those already here who meet the criteria laid out by President Obama. But who wants solutions when festering sores and bloody shirts are so much more effective in stoking ideological fervor?

Obama Decree Aimed at the Illegal Immigrant Vote

The Obama Administration:  Constitutionally Ignorant

This term alone, the high court has ruled unanimously against the government on religious liberty, criminal procedure and property rights. When the administration can't get even a single one of the liberal justices to agree with it in these unrelated areas of the law, that's a sign there's something wrong with its constitutional vision.  (Why Obama Strikes Out in Court)

This statement from Heimatlandsicherheit Kommisar Janet Napoleonitano is exemplar of this administration’s bald-faced contempt for the constitution and the law:

Our nation's immigration laws must be enforced in a firm and sensible manner," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement. "But they are not designed to be blindly enforced without consideration given to the individual circumstances of each case.” . (Obama Commands Immigration Laws be Loosened)

Is she stupid? Or evil? What is the symbol of justice? If a bureaucrat doesn’t like the law, she can’t just reinterpret it.

So Let it be Written, So Let it be Done!

I would have little problem with cutting some slack for people brought here illegally as children, were it not done via regal edict. Issues of this magnitude can only be accomplished by legislation, and only after we have put some controls on our border.  We are a democratic republic, not a dictatorship. 

What this will do is immediately attract more illegal immigrants hoping to cash in on the deal. 

"But Obama said they have to have to have lived here for five years! …” 

Illegal immigration is an industry based upon phony documentation. It will be easy enough to make anyone who arrives here eligible. They’re estimating 800,000 could take advantage of the program? I predict at least double that.

This is a play for the illegal immigrant vote by an administration that brazenly violates the constitution it swore to uphold.

Yes, many immigrants here illegally have chosen self-deportation, according to Michael Barone's reading of the latest Pew Research results...

from 2005 to 2010 some 1.39 million people came from Mexico to the United States and 1.37 million went from the U.S. to Mexico. "The largest wave of immigration in history from a single country to the United States," they write, "has come to a standstill."

The turning point seems to have come with the collapse of housing prices and the onset of recession in 2007. Annual immigration from Mexico dropped from peaks of 770,000 in 2000 and 670,000 in 2004 to 140,000 in 2010.

As a result, the Mexican-born population in the United States decreased from 12.6 million in 2007 to 12.0 million in 2010. That decrease consisted entirely of Mexican-born illegal immigrants, whose numbers decreased from 7 million in 2007 to 6.1 million in 2010. (RCP - Michael Barone)

Politicans Play Politics...

Many Washington Republicans confuse voter opposition to illegal immigration with opposition to all immigration. Their remarks often contain an ugly tone toward those who want to come to America.

We The People are Smarter and More Nuanced...

The Arizona Immigration Law is Persistently Popular:

In national polls, there have consistently been more supporters than opponents of the Arizona law, with the latest polls showing higher support than at any point since its passage. More than two-thirds of registered voters (68 percent) approved of the law in an April Quinnipiac poll, while only about a quarter disapproved (27 percent). (Washington Post)

But Scott Rasmussen sees no hate for immigrants, but rather anger at a government that refuses to enforce the laws it passes:

That's why, among voters who are angry about the immigration issue, 83 percent are angry at the federal government rather than the illegal immigrants themselves.

It's also why two-thirds of voters think those who knowingly hire illegal immigrants are a bigger problem than the people they employ.

Simply put, most Americans are angry at those who would entice others to break the law. They're not angry at people who are willing to work hard to provide for their families.  (Scott Rasmussen) 

I think that sums it up pretty well.  I like Mexicans, and Guatemalans, and others who come here from south of our border.  They are industrious people, we share the common values of Western Christendom, and Hispanics assimilate easily into our society, even as we adopt some of their culture, like food and music.

Where we find them mooching and gaming the system, it's a sure bet progressive government busybodies are behind it.  There are no safety nets in Central America, and these are resourceful people with a moral foundation.  We worry that they are dragging down our society?  We are dragging them down!

Stricter border and workplace enforcement, cutting off freebees, and having an efficient immigration system that keeps track of visitors would slow illegal immigration to a trickle.  This would allow our Latin American cousins, who don't want citizenship anyway, to get work permits and visitor visas so they can come and go with their heads held high.  This would respect the law as well as the human dignity of all, draining the heat and the pressure from the issue...  

...But then our politicians could no longer exploit it for narrow partisan purposes...

Close The Damned Gates!

Why the hell do Western nations continue to allow these troublemaking Muslims to immigrate? Look at a map.  Wherever there's trouble, angry turbaned men with beards are involved.

Our cultures are incompatible.  We enjoy pork bbq and beer, use toilet paper and refrain from female genital mutilation, for example.

Many Muslim immigrants refuse to assimilate, and the only way to have peace here in the West is to give in to their fleck spittled agitations at the expense of our cultural norms.  Not while I have breath in my body!  Better to close the gates!

Unlike the DeviledEgg, foreign editor of The Australian Greg Sheridan is no xenophobe, but he declares, "Uncontrolled Muslim Influx a Threat to the West."

It is extremely difficult to talk honestly about Muslim immigration. All generalisations about it are subject to countless exceptions. Muslims are very different from each other.

Most are reasonably successful. But a much bigger minority end up with social, political, extremist or other problems resulting from a lack of integration than is the case with any other cohort of immigrants in Western societies. A lack of honest discussion about this results in bad policy.

He goes on to recommend a book by Christopher Caldwell, Reflections on the Revolution in Europe: Immigration, Islam and the West.

Jacob Laksin at City Journal recommends the book as well.

Polls show that some 70 percent of Britons believe that there are too many immigrants in their country. Majorities throughout Western Europe agree, and Muslim immigrants in particular are viewed with suspicion.

Europe is a Benignly Racist Continent
 
Despite the finger-wagging at America, many Europeans are fundamentally and unconsciously racist and insular. Here in Germany, people from the next village over are considered outsiders, fellow German speakers from Austria are treated as the enemy, and those who hail from farther afield have no hope of ever fitting in in the land of beer and bratwurst. 

Europeans are in a jam, trying to steer a course between the Charybdis of bigotry and the Scylla of cultural destruction. Worse, the entire continent is in denial. Muslims are to blame as well, especially when they display open contempt for their new home:

Yet the immigrants themselves are far from faultless. One of the immigration debate’s inconvenient truths is that Muslim immigrants have been so difficult to assimilate into European societies because they’re unwilling: many Muslims simply choose religious ties over national loyalties.

... 31 percent of British Muslims felt they had more in common with the people of Muslim nations than with their fellow Europeans.

I hope the US can learn the right lessons from Europe's immigration debacle. Reading Caldwell's book would be a good start, but cutting off all Muslim immigration is imperative.

Is Illegal Immigration Slowing?

The New York Times reports:

Crossing “mojado,” wet or illegally, has become more expensive and more dangerous, particularly with drug cartels dominating the border. At the same time, educational and employment opportunities have greatly expanded in Mexico.

Per capita gross domestic product and family income have each jumped more than 45 percent since 2000, according to one prominent economist, Roberto Newell. Despite all the depictions of Mexico as “nearly a failed state,” he argued, “the conventional wisdom is wrong.”

The economic gains cannot be denied. More jobs and more post-secondary education is a good thing for Mexico and the US. If Mexico could ever get up to near the standards of Canada and the US, border enforcement and illegal immigration would fade as a pressing issue.

Illegal immigration issues and the criminality surrounding them clouds the fact that Mexicans are good people, more “like us” than not. We share a Christian heritage and an entrepreneurial spirit. Like us, the lazy ones are prone to take advantage of social services, but also like us, many more work and scrimp and save to make a better life for themselves. Bringing immigrants out of the shadows of illegality will solve much of the dysfunction and language problems, resulting in a more welcoming America and removing the perceived stigma of being Hispanic.

Enforcement Works

“illegal life in the United States became harder. Laws restricting illegal immigrants’ rights or making it tougher for employers to hire them have passed in more than a dozen states since 2006. The same word-of-mouth networks that used to draw people north are now advising against the journey. “Without papers all you’re thinking about is, when are the police going to stop you or what other risks are you going to face,” said Andrés Orozco.”

If the US really got a handle on the illegal immigration problem, closing the borders and punishing those greedy human rights abusers who hire illegal workers, the situation would rapidly improve for newly-arrived legal Hispanic immigrants.  No longer under a cloud of suspicion, integration into the American patchwork would be much easier.
