Congress Fiddles while Zika Burns

282 cases of Zika in Florida, 2,500 in Puerto Rico.

Funding is stalled as House Republicans in a conference committee inserted provisions unrelated to Zika such as limits on Obamacare, restrictions on abortions, funding cuts for birth control, and the lifting of environmental restrictions.

There have been 599 cases of Zika among pregnant women in the United States and its territories and seven infants have been born with Zika-related birth defects.

This is why I am no longer a Republican.  Grow the eff up and govern will you? I don't know which bloodsuckers are worse, the mosquitoes or the politicians.

This in a little temper tantrum after being called to task for cutting Colorado voters out of the candidate selection process.

Well sir, you ought to look around you... people, Republican people in Colorado are pissed and it is not the people of Colorado lighting the fire.  It is folks like yourself, folks that think they know better than everybody else, folks who are throwing the 2016 election away. Frankly at this point I wouldn't vote for a Republican if they were the only thing running.

As the saying goes... and the horse you rode in on! 

Well, It's Official

I was perusing an article on MSN earlier on the most Republican and Democratic counties in each state and it's official:  I live in the Most Republican County in the State of Colorado.

Romney won 65.1% of the 2012 votes cast in Teller County. The county’s poverty rate was lower than the national rate from 2009 through 2013. Additionally, the county was predominantly white, with 94.3% of its 23,276 residents identifying solely as white. Unlike most predominantly Republican counties, Teller County residents were relatively well educated. About 31.6% of county residents had at least a bachelor’s degree over the five years through 2013, compared with 28.8% of all adults nationally.

Not that I'm looking down on y'all or anything

John Boehner reelected Speaker by just 12 votes.


The House Republican leadership is carefully reviewing the list of members who voted against the speaker and those who opposed a procedural motion in December on the so-called “crominibus,” the $1.1 trillion spending package to keep the government open through to September.  Subcommittee chairmanships might be stripped and other perks could fall away, top Republican sources suggested, in a process that could take months to unfold.

So I've revived the Western Hero Award.

I stumbled across the following article on truthout and thought I'd share it:

Some highlights below, but I heartily recommend reading the entire article.

There is an entire large, well funded, and extremely effective business apparatus that extracts lucrative programs, explicit subsidies, guarantees, and various other gimmies from government bodies at all levels. 

One suspects the reason for the sensitivity within the ranks of the Democratic party water-carriers to the “corporatist” label is that Obamacare is a textbook case. 

Obama’s incentives are to come up with “solutions” that paper over problems, avoid meaningful conflict with the industry, minimize complaints, and restore the old practice of using leverage and investment gains to cover up stagnation in worker incomes. 

As I've been saying, the only difference between R's and D's is window dressing.  While I don't think I'll ever be in agreement with the folks over at truthout as to a solution, recognizing the problem is a good first step.
