Hateful, Intolerant Liberals Attack Chick-Fil-A

Here’s where we’re at in America...

People can stand up and make sound arguments for gay marriage, while bashing Mormons and Catholics. All well and good, it’s a free country, and no one on the religious right has shouted for them to be shut up. We respect the rights of others to disagree loudly and publicly with what we believe. It’s a free marketplace of ideas, and lively debate is good for society.

But a dark presence overshadows that marketplace of ideas. It is the noxious, pustule-covered presence of the doctrinaire, dogmatic, un-liberal left.

Mr Cathy, owner of Chick-Fil-a, made comments supporting traditional marriage. Nowhere in those comments did he disparage gay people, yet he and his company now have a baying pack of rabid progressive hounds on their trail, determined to shut him up and shut down his business. How liberal is that?

Meanwhile, gay provocateurs are determined to rub our noses in it, promising in-your-face agitprop in the form of gay “kiss ins” in front of Chick-Fil-A’s across the country.  That’s sure to get the hated rightwingchristians on their side!  And are they really so disconnected that they think such an immature idea is  going to outrage anyone?  We've been inundated with Hollywood sewage for decades now.  Nothing shocks anymore, especially something as innocuous and pedestrian as two guys or two gals kissing.

Idiots like Chicago Mayor Rahm Emannuel insist Chick-Fil-a is not Chicago values. Mr Cathy should take that as a compliment. Right after that pronouncement, Rahm embraced hatred-spewing serpent Louis Farakkan, who does reflect corrupt Democrat Chicago values.

Then comes the Mayor of Beantown, Thomas Menino saying it will be very hard for Chick-Fil-A to get a permit to operate in Boston unless they change their policies. That is both un-American and ignorant. Chick-Fil-A discriminates against no one, and so far as we know, follows all labor laws, so what could he be talking about?

This is the new, illiberal, intolerant left, folks. You’re not allowed to hold an opinion that deviates from their dogma. You will be anathematized and driven from the public square. Meanwhile, they are free to spew dirty hatred upon the unorthodox heretics and shove their beliefs in everyone’s faces, and it’s all OK.

Not only is Boston and Chicago’s posturing stupid, it's probably illegal as well. Imagine the opposite: A conservative mayor tells a restaurant owned by a loud gay rights advocate who attacks Christianity that it is not welcome in his city and he won’t get a permit.

So who’s intolerant and hateful? It sure as hell ain’t the Christian Right. It is the noisy, illiberal left.

Great job of describing exactly what this is all about and the hypocrisy that is embedded. Can you just imagine if your example were true? The resulting uproar would be akin to WW III. No end of it would be heard, yet these liberal hypocrites think they have the right to block permits for Chik-fil-A. It's disgusting.

Wasn't it Mitt Romney who said " The Private sector is doing fine, I'm NOT concerned with them"?.
I have to tell you folks that I was a bit doubtful of President Obama in the last Presidential race, only because I didn't think that he was experienced enough. . I have to say though we have come a long way and I support our President 100% and have even donated money this time around. He is far better than your candidate when it comes to helping ALL the people, not just a "select" group.

His opponent Mitt Romney betrays equality on numerous issues and aligns himself with a faction of the Republican Party that does not include equality.
You righties wants to make the president a scapegoat for all of America's woes and problems.. Well it just ain't so. America's problems didn't happen over night, they happened in the past 8 to 12 years, when your "Dear leader " George W. Bush was in office and he led us into 2 very expensive and meaningless wars.
You can laugh about it or deny it but the facts are there, President Obama inherited an economy with huge deficits, skyrocketing health care costs, and dwindling employment, and things like that can not be fixed in 3 years. Not when it took 8 years to get us in that ugly mess.

In the beginning of all this, my favorite line from Menino was: : “We’re an open city. We’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion. That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.”

Sam Huntington said...

The Baptist Press was interviewing Dan Cathy when he said that his company is a family owned business, family led business, and one that subscribes to biblical teachings. He said the owners of Chick-fil-A are all married to their first wives; he said he closes his restaurants on the Sabbath. I do not believe he once mentioned homosexuals.

Typically, the Los Angeles Times ran a headline proclaiming Chick-fil-A guilty of being anti-gay marriage —which was enough to send flappers out to protest at Chick-fil-A restaurants. You really can’t make this stuff up.

Clearly, this is a manufactured crises intending to marshal the inmates in advance of November. The left is controlling this narrative, so it is about the rights of gay people, whatever that means. If we are paying attention, this issue has nothing whatever to do with homosexual marriage, but it does provide us with a clear view of progressive government. It shows us what abusive government looks like. No one in the media is calling Emanuel and Menino on this … not even the so-called conservative media.

“We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that. We operate as a family business ... our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that.” —Dan Cathy, as reported in the Huffington Post

HuffPo continues, “The fast-food chain's commitment has included millions of dollars donated to anti-gay groups and causes, including the Marriage & Family Foundation and the Family Research Council, according to Business Insider. The company's WinShape Foundation also has refused to admit gay couples to marriage counseling. Last year, Chick-fil-A cosponsored a marriage conference with the Pennsylvania Family Institute, which lobbied against a state effort to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. In another interview on the Ken Coleman Show, Cathy suggested that the nation could face God's wrath for supporting gay marriage. That's pretty strong, incendiary language.”

Apparently, the left only supports language they agree with, which is how one defines fascism.

Hey Mustang, if you've been paying attention (real doubtful) you know that Menino backed off on his statement and had no support from the beginning.

Now both Jersey and I felt it was a dumb position and stated that it should be left to personal choice whether or not to buy a Chic-fil-a.

The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish

By the very edge of the blue sea lived an old man and his old woman. For three and thirty years they had lived in a tumbledown hut made of mud. The old man caught fish in his fishing net; the old woman span with her spinning wheel.

One day the old man cast his net and all he caught in his net was slime. The old man cast his net a second time
and all he caught in his net was weed. A third time the old man cast his net and what he found in his net was a fish
no ordinary fish, but a golden fish.

The fish begged, the fish begged and implored; the fish prayed in a human voice: “Release me, set me free in the sea and in return you'll receive a grand ransom, I'll grant you whatever you wish.”

The old man was amazed and frightened ...

One question:

How would the powers that be at Chik-Fil-A ever KNOW if homosexuals were eating at their restaurants?

Gay people don't have horns or grow tails or breathe fire through their nostrils. In most cases they look like everybody else, EXCEPT when they are deliberately making an obnoxious spectacle of themselves with grotesque, theatrically affected caricatures of feminine behavior or -- in the case of diesel dykes -- doing a bad imitation of rowdy truckers, ditch diggers, steelworkers and telephone linemen, etc.

What most don't seem to want to realize is the VAST difference between "ACTIVISTS" and people who merely want to live quiet middle class lives in an atmosphere of respectability.

Just as most blacks, thank God, are not like Malik "Zulu" Shabazz, Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee, P. Diddy Coombs, Al Sharpton, John Conyers or Alcee Hastings, most homosexuals do not behave like the "demonstrators," screaming queens, and other weirdos who do drag shows and all the rest of that crap.

To assume the stereotypical, popularly held caricature of any group is truly representative of the whole is as stupid as it is is uncharitable.

There's a few things with this whole debacle that are insanely ridiculous.

1. That we live in a society that supposedly espouses the wonders of free speech and thought, yet simultaneously tries to stifle those principles.

2. That given this condition, this moron still thought it'd be a good idea to go on the record and say something that he knew would be contentious.

The response to this is just plain stupid. I mean honestly, Chic fil-a doesn't represent "Chicago values," so they're not going to be allowed to expand there? Talk about government corruption: threatning to stymie a business because the owner's political views don't jive with your own.

The sad part is that Rahm Emmanuel is going to get away with it. Sorry, but the last time I checked I thought that political views had NOTHING to do with whether or not your business would be allowed to expand in this country.

All of you are free to boycott Chick-Fil-A to your heart's content. That's your right. But we've crossed the line when government steps in and penalizes a private citizen for his personal beliefs.

Given his stance on Chick-fil-A, would Mayor Tom Menino grant permits to a group that has counted among its leaders a man who has repeatedly called homosexuality a “crime that must be punished” by death?

Actually, he has done that  . . . and more! Menino effectively gave away city land valued at $1.8 million to the organization, and he gave a speech at its ribbon-cutting ceremony.

This is The Game everyone on both sides is playing nowadays:

Seize upon some stray remark that has the potential to be EXPLOITED for political advantage, and then work it to death in the media, until finally it either gets driven into the ground -- or the NEXT stupid simulated sensation comes along to take its place.

If I remember correctly, this sort of tactic started when poor John Vliet Lindsay -- a liberal Republican -- had the unmitigated gall to get himself elected Mayor of New York City.

He had barely been sworn in when the D'Rats started to make Herculean efforts to destroy him -- starting with a strike by the Sanitation Department that left garbage piled shoulder height all over the city that stank to high heaven for weeks.

In the midst of the fray Lindsay -- a handsome, blond patrician fellow of middle years -- had the temerity to say, "I think New York is a Fun City."

You might have thought he'd said something like, "The Virgin Mary Was a Whore" or" Jesus Christ Was a Pedophile" for all the furor his innocent, good-natured remark caused. For at least THREE YEARS every time New York City came into the news it was derisively called "Fun City."

We've been treated to ess-aitch-eye-tea like that in one form or another ever since.

Liberals such as Moocheel are always in favor of banning things like Trans fats, Happy Meals, Plastic bags, Guns, Lightbulbs, salt, sugar, bags of popcorn, Smoking, MacDonald, KFC Etc, and big Gulp sodas, liberals loved banning things why don't they think about BANNING themselves from conservative blogs?..
When these liberals begin dictating to us and banning our preferred method of the foods we like, or the grocery’s we buy, or even the room-illumination and especially our dining choices, then they’re not only infesting our homes and lives with roach-like familiarity, they’re kicking out the legs of our freedoms of choice.
Most people like myself don’t give a crap about what the First Lady thinks or says.
America was founded on the principles of liberty and freedom. The left embraces principles the furthest from this. They want control over our entire lives, even our thoughts, the government must get OUT of my personal business.
People like these progressives on this board think that w are against the Obama’s because of the color of the president's skin. Well make no mistake about it, I won’t vote for him or any liberal even if he was as white as snow.
Let these Liberals/Socialist/Communists/Leftist/Marxist/ that visit this site unleash their torrent of lies somewhere else. The left needs to leave the rest of us alone. Maybe they should consider relocating to Cuba or N. Korea. I’m sure they would dictate your life to your satisfaction.

It is no leap in logic to think that Michelle has a profound influence with her husband. It is also likely that whenever Michelle speaks out about such issues as obesity and diet, people listen. Mayor Bloomberg did. We may all agree that 16 oz. sodas are a bad idea, particularly if you are already a fat slob and teeter on the brink of Type II diabetes. On the other hand, conservatives reject the idea of a nanny state and think that Bloomberg and others should piss off.

By the way, who could ever imagine the incongruity of leftists supporting deviant and patently unhealthy lifestyle choices, while demanding an end to large sized colas? Here’s an idea: perhaps Michelle should focus more on ending her husband’s smoking before taking on the challenges of denying others their freedom to choose.

By the way,Chick-Fil-A hires gays and serves gays. This is the president's PERSONAL OPINION. I'm sorry liberals have such difficulty with allowing that.

Philadelphia Councilman Jim Kenney: "American civil liberties are not ordained by religion, they're ordained by a free and democratic government.

Ordain: To establish or order by appointment, decree, or law.

So I suppose we really ought to be thanking Mr. Kenney for granting us our rights?

To the contrary, government power is ordained by the people, not the other way around. Mr. Kenney of Philadelphia ought to take a trip down to Independence Mall and learn something of that.

SF Mayor Ed Lee: "Closest Chick Fil A to San Francisco is 40 miles away and I strongly recommend they not try to come any closer."

Ken Coleman: "Tolerance is defined as a "fair, objective and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, differ from one's own. Increasingly, we see a well-oiled publicity machine that is redefining tolerance as, "either you agree with me or you need to button your lips." Those who throw the labels of intolerance and bigotry at those who share an opposing opinion are ironically modeling a glaring lack of tolerance."

Meanwhile, @ Ducky and Shaw:

Ducky @First off, what damages has Chic-fil-a suffered?

@Shaw: A threat--at least by Mayor Menino--was not carried out, was retracted, and acknowledged that it was wrong. No comparison. Get it now?

First, while I can admire Cathy's strength of conviction to publicly stick to his values, I don't admire his stupidity in injecting his politics and religion into his business model to the detriment of the independent owner/operators of Chick Fil A franchises.

The damages suffered to Chick Fil A from Cathy's comments are irrelevant to the political discourse, and between him, his shareholders, and his franchise owners. If you want to boycott Chick Fil A, fine... If you want to support Chick Fil A, that's fine too, me I prefer Popeye's.

The damage done to our political system, however, is relevant. Politicians threatening illegal, unconstitutional action damages the system whether the threats are carried out or retracted.

Let's look at Moreno in Chicago:

"Moreno said he has an ace in his back pocket if he runs into legal trouble: traffic and congestion issues caused by the store that have been the subject of behind-the-scenes negotiations for the last nine months. "

Now, suppose the Chick Fil A in Chicago really would cause traffic problems, and Moreno denies the division permit based on those problems.

No one will ever believe that Moreno didn't ban Chick Fil A for its opposition to Gay Marriage and government loses credibility with the people. In Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington DC, and Philadelphia all Chick Fil A permit applications will be viewed through this filter, and all denials will have a legal basis for appeal given the number of political imbeciles shooting off their mouths in this controversy.

No, Emmanuel, Moreno, Menino, Kenney, Lee, et. al. have damaged the system,

Cheers!

The Truth
According to the CBN website,
the Interview took place on Thursday, September 13 (Some versions of the eRumor say it was Wednesday).

Both men spoke harshly of the terrorists and clearly blamed them for the attacks.

During a discussion about whether this crisis might bring revival to America, Jerry Falwell said God may have allowed what the nation deserved because of moral decay and said Americans should have an attitude of repentance before God and asking for God's protection. He specifically listed the ACLU, abortionists, feminists, gays, and the People For the American way as sharing in the blame. Pat Robertson responded with agreement.

Two conservative Christian ministers stated gays were responsible for 9/11 and God's judgement for America's moral decay.

Falwell and Robertson were and are recognized influential Christian leaders.

A right-wing pastor has come to Chick-fil-A's defense, not only applauding the Atlanta-based fast food company for its anti-gay views but also claiming that same-sex marriage brought about the great flood referenced in the biblical narrative of Noah's ark.

Aaron Fruh, a pastor at Knollwood Church in Mobile, Ala., spoke out against marriage equality on American Family Radio, challenging listeners to "find any society in human history that ever tried that experiment [of same-sex marriage] and lived to tell about it, they've all been destroyed," according to Right Wing Watch.

Sam Huntington said...

I’m sure we all understand why Steve and Shaw feel compelled to silence those with whom they disagree. Their connection to a “nationalist socialist” sympathy is readily apparent. We should wonder why a fringe opinion matters, to anyone.

The most excellent point (above) was when Finntann wrote, “… while I can admire Cathy's strength of conviction to publicly stick to his values, I don't admire his stupidity in injecting his politics and religion into his business model to the detriment of the independent owner/operators of Chick Fil A franchises.”

His response is exceptional on several levels —and sage, but dismissed out of hand by the clowns. The “shouting down” of voices we disagree with is patently un-American, but it does fit nicely into Mr. Alinsky’s rules for the communist left. (1) Give the appearance of morality (even when it doesn’t actually exist). (2) Always assume an adversarial relationship with others. (3) Use ridicule to your advantage.

I cannot say this is the modus operandi of Steve; he simply isn’t that smart … but it is impossible not to notice Shaw’s snotty elitism on nearly every occasion of commenting at conservative blogs. I have no doubt she will advocate the arrest of anyone who disagrees with her. This is what fascists do.

Constitutional Insurgent said...

.....and Godwin's Law is thus invoked.

Finntann said...

Oh, I know the comments are out there, my point was to get Steve to attribute them.

"Falwell and Robertson were and are recognized influential Christian leaders."

I notice that the statement recognizes them as Christian leaders, not 'Republican' leaders.

Steve attributes the statements he lists as Republican statements, and they do not in any way represent mainstream Republican thought.

You should not attempt to define a group by its margins. I can drum up as many 'out there' comments from Democrats as Steve does for Republicans.

Beverly Purdue: “If those of us who hold office could be given a break from having to face voters, we could more freely consider what would be best for this country.”

So, the Democrats support setting aside democracy in order to implement their agenda?

Roseanne Barr: "I first would allow the guilty bankers to pay… back anything over 100 million in personal wealth because I believe in a maximum wage of 100 million dollars and if they’re unable to live on that amount then they should go to the reeducation camps, and if that doesn’t help, then be beheaded."

Democrats support reeducation camps for and execution of successful capitalists?

Ward Churchill, Jeremiah Wright, Al Sharpton, Fred Phelps... do you want the Democratic Party defined by its margins?

Sam Huntington said...

Instead, we FEED such things and thus STRENGTHEN and PROLONG their pernicious influence.

A thread like this is a microcosm of the whole world. The way we treat each other here reflects the same flawed thinking that keeps all of humanity trapped in misery -- as I tried to explain above.

As a species we ADORE Conflict, and constantly seek "good reasons" to continue pursuing paths that lead to Bloodshed on an ever-widening scale.

In short WE GET WHAT WE DESERVE.

I couldn't agree more with FT's last comment in this thread.

Don't feed the troll!

Thank you, AOW. I'm glad at least one person "gets the message."

Have a lovely day! The trick is never to let the bastards get you down. ;-)

Cheerio!

Ordinarily I would agree with you FT, and if Steve was merely incessantly spouting the party line like Lib-mann, overflowing with liberal sincerity like Jersey, sharp witted, snarky, and entertaining like Ducky, or willing to actually engage in intelligent debate like Shaw, he wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately he lacks the capacity to participate on that level, and he's never learned to disagree without being disagreeable. At any and every rebuttal to one of his remarks he resorts to insult and invective on a level I haven't seen in the 6 months or so I've been coming here. He's really beyond the pale, and there's no reason to let his venomous vituperation to go unchallenged.

AOW: "Don't feed the troll!"

Apparently he hasn't referred to you by the "C" word yet.

Viburnum: You make an excellent point.

From now on, I will delete his comments with a clean conscience. As you point out, many smart and witty liberals comment here, and we enjoy the back and forth.

Little Stevie contributes nothing to the conversation but poop-throwing tourettes tantrums.

Viburnum, AOW has the horrid distinction of being the first lady to have Steve call her that amazingly disgusting name. I was second.

SF...I think that's what we all have to do now. We tried, we taught, we instructed, we chastised to no avail. I'll start doing that, too.
You're lucky you at least have some thinking, honorable libs here; I don't, none of mine are QUITE as nasty as steve, but close.

@AOW

My apologies. I can't imagine having the patience to tolerate him after that.

Viburnum,
Z is correct. In "our little circle," I was the first recipient of that epithet.
