Thank a vet by donating to The Wounded Warrior Project or another worthy cause that serves those who have served.
Better yet, the next time a politician wants to get his war on, using bellicose language and beating war drums, stand up and tell him to STFU.
Beware those beating war drums who have never been to war.Wars don't just kill people. They cause much more damage as well, most of it permanent. Divorce, mental trauma, physical disability. The cost is high, and it needs to be paid when America is in grave and imminent peril, but the bar must be set high. Higher than congress set it for George W. Bush.
And if we must go to war, then we go General Sherman on their asses or go home. Our fighting men and women deserve no less.
The final way you can honor our veterans is to ask your congressman and senators why we are still in Afghanistan, propping up Ali Baba Karzai and his 40,000 Taliban thieves, and training and arming pigs and cockroaches who kill our troops.

The Wounded Warrior Project? Only every month of the year. I am currently working on a project here in Chicago that rehabs old houses for returning vets.
Thank you Silver, and other veterans across this great nation, for defending my freedoms and my rights. It will never be forgotten.
"The cost is high, and it needs to be paid when America is in grave and imminent peril, but the bar must be set high. Higher than congress set it for George W. Bush."
Amen, brother! The bar must be set much higher. There was a good reason for everything our Founders put in our constitution. There was a good reason our Founders wanted only Congress to be able to declare war. I am going to attack this subject from a different angle tomorrow.
Since I am financially unable at the moment maybe I'll check and see if the Wounded Warrior Project needs volunteers. It's an outstanding cause.
God Bless our troops!
I think the bar to enter Afghanistan was set high enough but I agree with you about Iraq. But I'm still glad we're rid of Saddam - one less brutal dictator in the world. Plus, I am in full agreement that we need to get the heck out of Afghanistan.
Excellent post SF....and thank you for plugging WWP. It's a great program that has helped so many of our Brothers and Sisters.
...best listen to the dog that DIDN't bark.
Thank you for your service, veterans!
...and thank you for supporting them, families of veterans!
We don't often enough express our gratitude. And we are glad for these limited opportunities to redress this oversight.
So, "Thank YOU veterans!"
Our soldiers want to stay in Afghanistan...I hear this constantly. What that's about, I'm not sure. Of course, some want to leave...who wouldn't want to go HOME? But a large amount say we're doing good there. Go figure.
I wonder what the tally of soldiers was regarding who they voted for. The majority has ALWAYS voted Republican.
Wounded Warrior PRoject is fabulous and I'm hoping more and more people step up in any way they can to help.
Thanks, SF...for your service and for the service you're now providing through your blog every day.

Z: There are many more saying its all a waste of time.
Yes, we can make small-bore gains in a village, but it is ephemeral. We're strangers in a strange land fighting against their religion and their culture.
Z - After hanging up my ACUs.......I've continued to directly support our warriors in the AFG and Philippine theaters; to a man, everybody I speak with has zero confidance in the Afghans and the mission of OEF-A.
YMMV
SF: "Yes, we can make small-bore gains in a village, but it is ephemeral."
Not to mention that the hearts that we do win over will probably stop beating within hours of our eventual departure.
Thank you and all our vets for your service!
Constitutional: Thank you for the report.
I am not in contact with nearly as many active duty soldiers are you are, so I must rely on what I read or hear from the few I do talk with.
I rely heavily on Blackfive.net for the pulse of the active duty force. Many (most?) of them are retired but all very plugged in to current events.
Uncle Jimbo coming out for gays in the military is what finally convinced me.
Finally, you mention the Philippines, which most people probably don't even realize we've had operations going on there for over 10 years.
IMHO, that is an example of how to do an operation right. They invited us in, we provide technical effects and training, and they do the dirty work.
That's how we did it in Central America, and that is how it should be.
SF - Exactly. We're successful on the PI largely because we have a light Counter-Terrorism footprint, and a legitimate host government. The opposite is true in AFG where we have been muddling through a COIN campaign with an illegitimate regime in Kabul.
The levels of corruption are par between the two however.
I forgot to add that I comment on varying degree over at Blackfive and This Ain't Hell. I think both are good sites, though heavily Republican.
Celebrate these heroes, who build up and protect our nation. Rather than the "community activists" who seek to tear us down and to unravel the fabric of a civil society.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. --John 15:13

In the PI and Central America they wanted us there. And BTW didn't turn on us the minute we turned our backs.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're pasting this post in multiple threads and it just shows what an ass you are to politicize veterans day with your bullshit rhetoric.
I'm betting you never even served.
Beautifully put, my friend.
Thank you, Veterans. We will never forget your sacrifice. I really have no words. I am grateful, please know.

We think alike, I had planned to run that same photo but failed to post on the subject of Veterans' Day.
Perhaps it is because I am starting to feel that, in spite of all of their sacrifices, we will lose our freedoms anyway. I pray that they have not died in vain.
"I pray that they have not died in vain."
They did. The election proved that conclusively, Stogie, but that takes nothing away from the bravery and nobility of their sacrifice.
The nation was just systematically conditioned by the Marxian termites who infiltrated -- and then took over -- the universities and the public schools to forget, belittle, denigrate and dismiss the true patriots and the spirit that motivated them.
Persistent abuse of the First Amendment and the legal system by fiends and intellectual perverts has worked to create suspicion about the motives and character of all our great heroes. This has served to engender a false sense of guilt in "our" people that has eroded faith and confidence in ourselves and blunted our sense of purpose as a people.
We as a people don't "dishonor" our fallen heroes, we've simply forgotten who they were, and why they fought.
The tragic consequences of the election are the inevitable result of a long chain reaction of evil deeds performed by useful idiots used as pawns by the monsters that continue to shape our destiny for their own despicable ends.

Very well put my friend.
Anyone who believes Marxism is the cause of any of our troubles in America today is an idiot.
