Obama-Lama-Demagogues

Obama is desperate to cling to power, and he's resorting to bald-faced lies to do it.

From Time Magazine:
That new Priorities USA ad which effectively blames Mitt Romney for a woman’s cancer death is a strange beast. It is at once the most dishonest and substantive ad of the summer.
Narrowly judged, the ad is scurrilous. It implies that a Romney-led takeover of GST Steel company in Missouri by Bain Capital left a GST worker, Joe Soptic, and his wife, Ilyana, without health insurance; that she delayed seeing a doctor for cost reasons; and that she received a fatally late diagnosis as a result. But a CNN fact-check severely undermines this narrative. (Dishonest but Important)
Despite the ad’s bald-faced lies that the liberal author acknowledges, he still likes it…
But at least a story like the Soptics’ illuminates the kind of policy choices that lie at the heart of this election–certainly more so than advertisements about Romney’s foreign assets, or a distorted quote from the president.
Ahhh... There it is.  We stung their messiah with the truth.  Those damned conservatives replayed Obama’s words, in context, showing him mocking business owner for having the temerity to think that they were “so smart,” and to dare to say they “work hard.” Obama’s gargoyles in the press hate us for pointing out that his “You didn’t build that” comment is false even if he were talking about roads and bridges, because business owners are revenue generators, much more so than that crowd he was preaching to, whose resentful hooting egged Obama on to Chavez-esque heights during that infamous tirade.

Fear and Smear is All Obama has Left

So here is where we’re at this campaign season. Obama has no accomplishments to run on, so it’s fear and smear 24/7, with him being introduced in Denver by a 30 year old woman who had the unabashed gall to go on national TV and demand the rest of us pay for her to get her freak on. Meanwhile, a Democrat party attack machine runs ads here in Colorado saying Romney is dangerous for women.

Another Bald-Face Obama Lie: The Bogus Romney Tax Increase

Heard the one about Romney’s plan to raise taxes on the middle class? As a WSJ editorial proclaims, it’s a Romneyhood Fairy Tale:
So this is hardly news, except that the media are treating this joint Brookings Institution and Urban Institute analysis as if it's nonpartisan gospel. In fact, it's a highly ideological tract based on false assumptions, incomplete data and dishonest analysis. In other words, it is custom made for the Obama campaign. (WSJ)
Using this report against Romney is bogus because the report critiques what the authors imagine his plan to be, not his plan.

Here are the authors' own words from the report:
We do not score Governor Romney’s plan directly, as certain components of his plan are not specified in sufficient detail, nor do we make assumptions regarding what those components might be. (Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center)
So there we have it folks. Mitt Romney did not kill that man’s wife, and he has no plan to raise taxes on the middle class. But why let a few facts get in the way of Obama’s Second Coronation?

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), an outspoken critic of just about everything President Obama supports, is considering introducing a bill that would repeal everything Obama has signed into law. King put forward this suggestion to an Iowa audience on Tuesday, when he also reiterated his threat to sue the Obama administration for its June decision not to deport younger illegal immigrants. Under that policy change, illegal immigrants who are in school or have served in the military would get a two-year deferral from deportation..

It may be in vain, but I say, bring it on!

Ducky's here said...

His "you didn't build that" is false and you proved it?

Huh? Blowing it out your butt again, Silverfiddle.

When the actually quote was presented in it's context it is obvious that Obama referred to the elements of a functioning economy and society that are necessary for growth but are not profit centers and therefore are not built by private industry.

Nothing false there.

Chavez-esque heights? Stop being a damned fool.

Silverfiddle said...

Taken the way you say it Ducky, Obama's ravings about infrastructure are, as another commentator pointed out, anodyne observations, controversial to no one. Of course we need infrastructure.

Go on, tell us about all those anti-infrastructure tea party rallies.

It was his mocking comments. Imagine that, a president mocking business owners for thinking they are so smart and so hard working. His shrill tone was mocking and his comments were dripping with contempt.

Get down off your tippy-toes, Ducky. Your Obama underoos are showing.

Wow! You've topped yourself with this piece of bloated acerbity.

What? No mention of Mr. Romney's claim that President Obama wants to take voting rights away from military folks in Ohio?

or this:

"Under Obama’s plan (for welfare), you wouldn’t have to work and wouldn’t have to train for a job. They just send you your welfare check."

Mitt Romney on Monday, August 6th, 2012 in a campaign ad

PolitiFact: The ad’s claim is not accurate, and it inflames old resentments about able-bodied adults sitting around collecting public assistance. Pants on Fire!

Romney: "President Barack Obama is 'ending Medicare as we know it.' "

Politifact: "Pants on Fire"

Romney: In the 2012 State of the Union address, President Obama "didn't even mention the deficit or debt."

Politifact: "Pants on Fire"

And this one that is still being posted on conservative blogs:

Romney: "President Obama "'went around the world and apologized for America.'

PolitiFact: "Pants on Fire"

I really have no sympathy for your indignation around campaign ads, not after 4 years of the GOP allowing the birthers--See Trump, Donald--to keep that stupid lie going.

A little taste of its own medicine, and the GOPers seethe with swollen rage and resentment.

You seem to conveniently forget Shaw that many on the so called right did not support the Trump meme, or any of the rest of the birthers who got themselves worked up to a frenzied state over nothing.

The INTERESTING FACTOR is that the frenzied left is now frantically trying to find ways to wash (whitewash)its own blatant tendency for hyperbole and general BS.

Actually, the whole damned season is becoming hysterically comical.

Shaw displayed perfectly Obama's "Hey, look over there!" strategy.

I also like how she displays the typical progressive mind-set that justifies their lying because the other side does it too.

FreeThinke said...

I believe this is worthy of repetition. Please get used to it, because I may use it frequently in the coming weeks. It applies not only to Ms. Shaw, but to everyone who indulges in purely partisan political gamesmanship.

Disingenuous use of facts and figures may win the battle, but is likely to lose the war. In the long run using selected facts as weapons only serves to defeat integrity, and that could never produce long range good results.

Ms. Shaw,

You are much too intelligent and well read to imagine that the past blunders and ineptitude of members of an opposition party provide an excuse -- or worse a justification -- of the inadequacies and grievous errors of a member of your own.

I defy you to find a single example that would support the notion that the asininity of "A" automatically provides "B" with virtue or credibility

It's a stupid argument, and you are not a stupid person. I know you can do better.

Instead of trying to deflect attention towards the foolishness or possible wickedness of past administrations, why don't you come up with solid evidence that shows your man to have been a better choice?

I doubt if you can, frankly, but this exchange of insults and scurrilous "opinionation" we routinely indulge in is not only unworthy, it's a huge waste of time.

Affectionately,

~ FreeThinke

Ms. Shaw responded not unkindly that that in effect Mr. Obama was winning the nationwide popularity contest, and claimed that validates his presidency.

IS that -- or should it be-- the criterion we use in determining the quality and value of anyone's work?

"The great are rarely popular, the popular are rarely great."

Who said that?

Shaw Kenawe said...

"The great are rarely popular, the popular are rarely great."

No, FT, I don't know who said that.

Let's see, Jimmy Carter was not popular; Ronald Reagan was popular.

SF, you've used the "They Do It Too!" argument in the past. Just giving you a taste of the same medicine.

Also you've come to my blog and exclaimed something to the effect, "Oh my! It's politics and people are lying!"

Mr. Romney has made the company he started and headed, Bain Capital, the central message of his campaign: He knows how to run things.

Even if the charges in the ad are unsupportable, and you and others think what Bain did is unobjectionable, the ad tells a story about what has happened to the middle class in this country.

Liberals by and large believe government can step in and help people like Mrs. Soptik when market outcomes fail them.

Romney's own campaign said that universal health care is the answer to the dire circumstances the Soptiks suffered. At the same time, Romney is promising to overturn the very program that his OWN compaign said could have saved Mrs. Soptik.

That's the larger point.

Shaw Kenawe said...

And there's this little nugget of Romney double-think:

"And — crowning absurdity — in Israel last week, Romney praised the Israeli healthcare system, noting that it costs just 8% of Israel's GDP while ours costs 18% of a much larger GDP. He said we should try to learn from it. Excellent point.

How does Israel do it? Single-payer — essentially a government-run program."

Does he or doesn't he?

[Like universal health care]

Romney appears to be very, very confused.

My dear Shaw, you are highlighting my point nicely thanks you.

It is no longer about doing the right thing, or about finding truth, or even about maintaining a consistent and rational philosophy. Oh no, it has become all about winning at all cost.

Thus whomever said "tell the truth, even if it's a lie", must have been a politician, government official, or party hack of some sort.

Shaw Kenawe said...

"There's a world of between truth and facts."

Bull. Truths and facts are the same thing.

Go look up the definition of "truth." "Fact" is included in the definition.

But incorrect data can produce false truths and false facts.

"False truths and facts" can produce incorrect data.

It was accepted as truth in Aristotle's day that an object moves through space because the air pushes it from behind. And the Greeks accepted that as "truth."

Aristotle also declared that women had fewer teeth than men, without bothing to count the teeth in his wife's mouth. That was accepted as truth/fact as well.

The operant word, Ms. Shaw in the "great" proverb is "rarely."

Even so, I give you high marks for quick wit in making a snappy comeback, even if the intended implication of your quip is patently absurd.

Mr. Carter became unpopular because he was an irritatingly self-righteous, singularly inept leader whose administration saw interest rates as high as 18% and a virtual stasis in the the stock market.

When Mr. Carter left office, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was in the neighborhood of 700 -- that's seven-HUNDRED points. After Mr. Reagan established himself in office, the averages rose precipitously.

Despite the Crash of 1987 and the ravages inflicted by 911, The Terror of 2008, the destruction in and persistent depression of the housing market and commercial real estate, a true unemployment rate of 15-18% and a flatline economy since the current occupant of the white house took office, the DJIA remains at or near thirteen-THOUSAND today.

Despite having lost about 20% of my net worth -- excluding the 55% drop in the value of my house -- I am still able to function well, live decently, and to pay several individuals generously for their much-needed, much-appreciated services.

The strength and resilience of the market, despite all the vile machinations of the unholy alliance between Big Government and Big Business, is almost miraculous.

When I think of what could happen if the market were unhampered an unfettered by Marxian manipulation, I could cry for the sheer stupidity of our voters at having delivered us into the hands of the Big Time Oligarchical Interventionists.

Freedom is preferable to Safety every single time. Why? Because "safety" is an illusion. there ain't no such animal.
