Unbalanced Demographic Perversity

Leticia had an interesting post over at her conservative Christian blog, My Daily Trek.
In yet another expansion of government through Executive Order, the Obama administration has created an Office of Diversity and Inclusion to boost minority participation in the federal work force.
She quotes Judicial Watch, stating that the Obama administration’s goal is to...
“Eliminate demographic group imbalances in targeted occupations and improve workforce diversity. To attain this, special initiatives have been created targeting specific groups, including Hispanics, African Americans, American Indians, women and gays and lesbians.”
What if African-America lesbians are underrepresented in the government janitor category?  Will Obama force random lesbians at gunpoint to grab a mop and broom?

I guess hiring the best person for the job is too simple-minded. If your young daughter is going in for a serious surgery, do you go to the hospital that hires the very best surgeons, or do you go to the diversity hospital that includes witch doctors and those practiced in non-conformist techniques?

If your daughter died at the hands of an inept doctor, would it really make you feel better knowing that at least the doctor was an American Indian lesbian messianic-Muslim?  Or, as Howard Portnoy observes, if diversity is the the supreme good, then why don't we "see women playing in the NFL?"

Progressives have build a bonfire of stupidities, and this is just the latest log on the fire

Here's how to short-circuit this crap:

Declare yourself and your opposite-gender spouse to both be homosexual.  Demand special rights and recognition.

When challenged by the diversity police, scream loudly that you are being discriminated against because you don't fit the traditional gay lifestyle.  Insist the feral government create a new category for you.  Call Jesse Jackson and go on MSNBC to demand mandatory diversity training that indoctrinates everyone into your alternate lifestyle.

There! You've just created for yourself an even smaller, more exclusive and more oppressed minority.  See how easy it is?

At some point, a lot of our military will return home and begin looking for jobs. I'm not speaking of the lifers; I'm speaking of the young men and women who did one or two tours of duty. My own USMC cousin is one of those who enlisted, in part because, as one fresh out of school, he couldn't find a job when the economy tanked.

So, he comes home. As a white male, will he even be "eligible" for a federal job now that the federal government as employer is going to be actively seeking diversity among its employees?

There is entirely too much focus on fairness in this day and age. They want things to be fair, but in reality, there is no way they can be, without hurting someone else.

Point in fact, just because someone works harder to achieve their goals and gets a position someone else may have wanted, but didn't work as hard to achieve, doesn't mean that life is unfair. It just means that the person that got the job or achieved their goals worked hard. It's time our country started realizing that.

Fairness is alright if we're measuring fairness as a notion of justice, i.e. everyone getting what they deserve.

If they believe that these diversity inclusion things are fair, or increases fairness, then they're basically saying that minorities deserve jobs based on the color of their skin.

Diversity is a good thing, but trying to eliminate discrimination by committing discrimination is a horrible sleight of hand. Most Americans have the cognitive capacity of 5 year olds anyway, so they'll actually believe that the magician (Obama) somehow pulled a quarter out of their ears.

Brilliant! I may be that the best defense against fools is foolishness.

Hey, SilverFiddle was that a typo, a Freudian slip, or an intentional example of brilliant wit?

In any case it was very funny.

"Fairness" should have nothing to do in determining who gets a job. Neither should it matter how hard or how long someone has worked to achieve a particular goal. All that should matter are measurable potential, proven capability, a good work ethic, and does the boss feel comfortable having you on his staff?

Considerations of race, sex, religion, age and all the rest of that crap should have nothing to do with it.

Let the cream rise to the top. Let the chips fall where they may, and let the devil take the hindmost. We've got a country to run -- not some stupid laboratory experiment in Social Engineering.

As a devoted fan of what-is-too-often-contemptuously-referred-to-as "high culture," I am still not-too-eagerly anticipating the day when the Fairness and Diversity Police move in on the great ballet companies of the world and threaten to shut them down if they don't cast a Three-Hundred Pound Black Ballerina to star in Swan Lake -- or force the major league baseball teams to let women play pro baseball alongside the men, or college football teams to let little women play fullback, and midgets to play pro-basketball, ETC.

Won't it be a hoot? NOT!

I steer clear of female and black physicians...just in case. No way in HELL I would allow them near my child. Heck. Even my verterinarian is a male.
Whenever I have a frustrating customer service problem on the telephone I always ask to speak to a "white male". Works every time!
I commented on another blog that the police department needs female patrol officers like the NBA needs midgets. Just saying...
Now you know why my husband and I never attend the annual Christmas party for work!

This sorta dovetails in with the whole problem that you touched on a couple of weeks ago about people not taking personal responsibility.

If I don't have to be accountable for my errors, then likewise, I'm certainly not responsible for making sure that I meet the qualifications or am appropriate for a job I want. I'm entitled to have what I want regardless of whether I've made any effort to get it.

I used to be one the fence about partisan crap, but any more, I just wanna find a Democrat and slug 'em right in the nads.

Rob said, "I just wanna find a Democrat and slug 'em right in the nads. "

One problem, Rob...Democrats are pretty effeminate. Good luck finding one woth the aforementioned hardware. Unless, of course, they are females.

Ms. Theatre,

I have to disagree with you about female physicians. I've known two or three who were Class-A in every regard. One actually saved my life many years ago.

HOWEVER, when it comes to surgery, I'd rather take my chances with a white male - especially if he's Jewish.

The OoD wasn't created to force anyone to do anything. It's about reach-out and recruitment and so forth. It's just trying to improve divserity where it is starkly lacking.

There's nothing wrong with that.

Why do you guys hate on every little thing so much???

Freethinke,
As a mother I would rather not hire an affirmative action female physician whose career is more important than the children she left in Daycare.
As far as surgeons are concerned, I prefer an atheist over a Jew. An atheist is fairly convinced we only have one "go around" and he may be more inclined to prolong it!

That's funny, Z. Beamish was bitching about the exact same thing over at your place a day or two ago. He blamed "Blogger," however, not you.

I don't always take my own good advice -- and isn't that a pity -- but I try to make it a practice to write commentary in WORD before I post it -- just in case something like that happens.

The Cyberworld is perilously unstable and full of tech-generated frustrations which is why it's hard to take it too seriously.

I think, as time goes on, we're going to miss traditional print media more and more.

Diversity in itself is neither good nor bad. It just is. In some situations it can be a benefit, and in other situations it can be horribly damaging.

The real problem comes with what ultimately amounts to forced diversity. Diversity programs rarely function to allow the diversity that naturally exists, but rather force an unnatural, manufactured diversity into unnatural places that it is not meant for, and in which it has no legitimate role.

I see it all the time on campus. Admission of unqualified students based on irrelevant criteria such as skin color or sex results in poor performance in the classroom. Relaxation of standards for such students results not only in uneducated graduates but also in the devaluation of diplomas even for the students that were qualified for college and worked hard to learn. Expenditure of money from tuition, etc., on social-engineering offices and departments that privilege and glorify aberrant lifestyles means that core general education courses are eliminated.

Occasionally there will be an attempt at justifying forced diversity with the vague and thoroughly unsubstantiated claim that it enhances the learning environment, but it's clear that there are many in the cult of diversity that view diversity as an end in itself. As for the classroom? It just ends up being full of kids that a) are not qualified for university work and b) think that being strange is the same as being clever or creative.

Of course, the last thing that you see in most secular universities is intellectual diversity. All social-engineering, all the time. Go ahead and dress like a freak and spew the most moronic babble possible, but don't ever suggest anything that doesn't promote the revolution du jour!

"FT has used some pretty vulgar language here, but not directed at anyone, and I let it stand."

Tut tut! Must be Tourette's Syndrome coming to the fore again.

I'm sure I've seen egregious examples of vulgarity in items many others post as well. One of our good friends, who posts here with some frequency, makes a regular feature of it on his blog -- almost a fetish in fact. So what? It doesn't stop him from being a good guy.

I've seen vulgarity in some of the daily items you post now and then too. It doesn't bother me in the least, but please let's not start the game of applying standards selectively. It hasn't worked out very well in other places.

A great deal of the appeal here has been the openness, frankness and complete lack of censorship.

One of the major societal problems we have thanks to Political Correctness is being made to feel we ought to cower, grovel, apologize and agree to emend our behavior before anyone who claims to be offended.

You, yourself, wrote not long ago, SilverFiddle, that censorious attitudes of that ilk are inherently tyrannical and calculated to give an unfair advantage to the "offendée." I applauded you for that, and sincerely hope you will not change.

I have no time for people who make a career out of being offended. That really a waste of everyone's precious time.

"Diversity," of course has become a code word for the ruthless determination of leftist power blocs to force acceptance of any and all unnatural, illogical combinations of racial, ethnic cultural and religious elements on the entire population.

When left to their own devices most clearly identifiable groups gravitate towards their own kind. This is especially true of the various minorities and victim groups the left loudly proclaims its desire to "help."

The insanity has gone so far, I understand, as to have college administrations force Christian Identity groups to hire aggressive atheists in administrative positions, etc.

The "Diversity" movement is SICK.

In the interests of accuracy I have to say I was wrong.

The phrase I quoted above was not by Mark Twain. It came from D.H. Lawrence:

" ... Me? Oh, intellectually I believe in having a good heart, a chirpy penis, a lively intelligence, and the courage to say 'shit!' in front of a lady. `Well, you've got them ..."

~ D.H. Lawrence (1885-1930) in Lady Chatterley's Lover

Pretty racy for a distinguished man of letters, but there you have it. No doubt Twain used salty language too, but probably not in his writings.
