Clint Eastwood: Mission Accomplished

Clint Eastwood gave an interview to his local paper, The Carmel Pine Cone.  Here are a few excerpts:
“President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people,” Eastwood told The Pine Cone this week. “Romney and Ryan would do a much better job running the country, and that’s what everybody needs to know. I may have irritated a lot of the lefties, but I was aiming for people in the middle.”
[...]
“I had three points I wanted to make,” Eastwood said. “That not everybody in Hollywood is on the left, that Obama has broken a lot of the promises he made when he took office, and that the people should feel free to get rid of any politician who’s not doing a good job. But I didn’t make up my mind exactly what I was going to say until I said it.”  (Carmel Pine Cone)
It's an interesting article, giving a blow-by-blow account leading up to the speech and then the aftermath.

After the DNC's Kavalcade of Kooks, Clint's performance looks even better.

Eastwood: Mission Accomplished

Democrat Lies

And as a latebreaking addition, I'm reposting Scudrunner's excellent comment from yesterday:

The GOP needs to point out the Obama/Obiden lies

1. Clinton left Bush a surplus not a deficit = Lie
Clinton was in deficit spending (That means we were spending more that we were taking in).  With his new math of using the medicare surplus he considered that a budget surplus.

2. Obama saved the auto industry and Romney said let them go out of business = lie
What Romney said is they need to file bankruptcy to reorganize.  What Obama did was spend 20 billion to give the unions half of GM, eliminate several companies and then have them file bankruptcy. At least he took Romney's advice

3. Romney/Ryan will give millionaires/billionaires a tax break while raising taxes to the middle class = Lie
Romney will eliminate tax deductions which will affect the "rich" far more than the middle class

4. Obama cut taxes for 95% of Americans = Lie

He cut SS taxes further depleting SS for the future while starting taxes for obamacare and of course tanning

5. Romney/Ryan will cut medicare = Lie
Over 55 nothing will change, under 55 you have a choice of accepting a voucher to pay private insurance or take medicare as it is. Democrats think Americans are to dumb to make their own choices.

6. Obama will strengthen Medicare by lowering costs = Lie
He will cut reimbursements which will result in fewer Dr's accepting medicare resulting in healthcare shortages

7. Obama go Bin Laden = True
Thanks to the systems put in place by the previous administrations which Obama was against.

8. Obama is for equal treatment of women = lie
Female workers at the WH make less than males.

Much hay is being made [and justifiably so] about Bill Clinton overshadowing Obama at the DNC...but I've noticed much the same regarding both the Ryan pick and Clint's speech at the RNC.

Is Romney really the best the GOP could do?

SF - Considering that Obama has largely carried on the Bush Administrations policies regarding the 'GWOT', aside form waterboarding [which is debatable as to how much that may have contributed to killing ObL] what specifically was Obama against, that led to his death.

Spot on about the auto industry.

The Political Chic said...

Eastwood sure stirred them up! The Left has been jumping all over themselves since the RNC convention. Clint hit it out of the park!

And he did it without a teleprompter, his speech was a masterful ad-lib. I can't even imagine the "The Great One" being able to tie his shoes without a teleprompter giving him instructions.

“President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people,”

Silverfiddle said...

No. And Obama is not the best of the Democrat party either. In politics, we rarely get the best.

My fellow conservatives will probably jump all over me for saying this, but we'd probably be much better off with Warren Buffet running things.

Les Carpenter said...

As to teleprompter use... Exactly what does that indicate? I mean really, given candidate Mittens Romney, as well as all Presidents as far back as LBJ have utilized them.

Is one to assume Mittens, the man who flips before he flops, needs a telepromter to tie his shoes as well?

As to greatest hoax... Arguably the greatest hoax is the new facist rEpublican pArty of America passing itself off as a party of integrity and liberty. A joke really for those who actually " get what is really going on."

If would have been helpful if your commenter, skudrunner, had given you some links to back up his comments. Without them, his claims are mere opinions.

I looked on the interenet to try to discover if what skudrunner claimed about the equal pay for equal work was correct.

I found this site which states:

"The White House has been required to deliver a report to Congress listing the title and salary of every White House Office employee. Consistent with President Obama's commitment to transparency, this report is being publicly disclosed on our website as it is transmitted to Congress. In addition, this report also contains the title and salary details of administration officials who work at the Office of Policy Development, including the Domestic Policy Council and the National Economic Council -- along with White House Office employees."

After looking at the 400+ jobs and salaries listed, with names to indicate male and female, I found that 1) many job titles are diverse and it is impossible to know the job descriptions and what the educational and experiential requirements are for each job that would warrant a difference in pay scale, and 2) there were enough jobs that carried the exact same title so that a comparison could be made for the salaries paid to males and females. From those data I was able to determine if salaries for male and female holding the same title/job made the same salaries:

Operator: male: $42,738 female: $43,656

Analyst: male and female: $42,000

Staff Assistant: male and female: $42,000

Press Assistant: male and female: $42,000

Associate Director male: (Ian Reed) $45,900, femaale (Karen Richardson) $92,000

Assistant Director, female: $51,000, male: $50,000

Senior Analyst: male: $42,000, female: $42,000

Of course, the Carmel area is riddled with drunken lefties celebrating their extreme wealth which allows them to live in that lovely area, according to my own Conservative friend who lives there and gets the Carmel Pine Cone (maybe the worst name for a paper ever, unless you know how many pine trees are there!)....the reason they allowed this to be printed is that Eastwood's a HERO there, lives there, owns the HOG'S BREATH INN, etc....they love him and had to acquiesce!

Don't forget, we have what the media called "NOBEL PRIZE WINNER PAUL KRUGMAN" saying Ryan is "not a man of substance" so...:-)
By the way, when Obama won the Nobel seemingly for getting elected, didn't that take some of the gravitas behind any Nobel winner's sentiments away for you?

I love how a Black Secretary in the White House under Republicans was SECRETARY OF STATE not the secretary sitting around the corner from the Oval Office taking messages. Alternate reality is always comforting when reality isn't what you want it to be.

Facts are that the Democratic convention had more viewers than did the GOP convention. And more viewers watched Pres. Clinton speak on Wed. night than watched the opening night of the NFL.

And Mrs. Obama had more views watch her speech on line than watched the ENTIRE GOP convention.

Clint Eastwood was a big hit with the GOP. Everyone else, the rest of the country laughed at him.

@ CI

Communism is a socialist movement to create a classless, moneyless, stateless social order, structured upon common ownership of the means of production. A communist or Marxist is an adherent of the foregoing.

Now if the preceding definition doesn’t describe Barack Obama and the Democratic National Platform, nothing does. The behavior of the progressive movement over the past four years is inimical to the interests of a free American society. I find it astounding that the government seized private property at the public’s expense, turned it over to union gangs, disenfranchised non-union members, and you find nothing worrisome about any of this…

No matter how much you pretend otherwise, Marxists are at work within the United States. Deny it all you wish, try to make others feel as if they are stupid by your elitist comments—but we know better. All of this may be just fine with you, but it isn’t fine with me. So here’s an idea: remove your head from your ass, if for no other reason than to get a clearer picture of how progressives have transformed the Democratic Party into a communist movement.

I believe Obama is a hoax, too; every bit as much as was Franklin Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton. Roosevelt didn’t repair America’s economy following the stock market crash, he made it last longer. Is this lesson lost on the American voter? Apparently. Lyndon Johnson’s so-called Greatest Generation didn’t make America a better place for minorities; he made it more expensive. If you wanted to do something for minorities, give them a decent education, a decent job, and give them cultural decency. Bill Clinton had the benefit of a conservative congress, which made him a “better” president, but Clinton gave us a more dangerous world and two attacks on the World Trade Center. I didn’t mention Carter, Obama, or Bush … they are all bad jokes self-imposed by a deserving society.

Constitutional Insurgent said...

@Jack - Sure.....I'm the elitist.

The framing of the mainstream of the American left as Marxism and/or Communism is a facade constructed by those who cannot admit nor defend the shortcomings of their own party, and haven't the intellectual depth to even try.

Don't even begin to pretend to presume what I find worrisome. If one engages in just a bit of critical thought, one knows that lack of enthusiasm for one party does not equal support for the opposition.

The manner in which the left governs is not an ideology I support. But I don't have to lay smokescreens of bovine fecal matter and juvenile attempts at redefinition of vocabulary make any case I choose to.

That you insist upon it says far more about you, than you have tried to say about me.

Unknown said...

@ CI

I once read that if people really are out to get you, relax: you aren’t paranoid. This issue isn’t about one party or the other —I guess you missed the point. Here, let me spell it out for you. The primary issue facing Americans today is one of ideology; a deeper issue than party labels. Now if the political left embraces the idea that government gets to choose winners over losers, then I have to argue the political left no longer conveys American values. If the political left argues that is role of the federal government to deliver social justice, then I must argue we are in danger of losing our country to this foreign ideology: collectivism.

My bottom line is this: as an American, you can believe whatever you wish. Just don’t piss down my neck and tell me it’s raining.

Constitutional Insurgent said...

@Jack - I agree with what you're saying. My initial point was that the manner in which Obama has governed does not equate to the very definitions of Marxism and Communism that are being bandied about frivolously.

It is about ideology, but party power has eclipsed core ideologies, on both ends of the spectrum. The GOP has lost it's way and drifted away from core Conservative values - Conservative in this instance being core classically liberal than modern usage. Admonishing the GOP doesn't mean any love for the left, nor vice versa. The American political landscape has always contained tenets that are derided as collectivism, today's government is no different, and certainly no worse than some previous.

My latter point is more to the idea that if one's position or ideology is both strong and just, it should be able to stand on it's own merit. When the person making said argument relies on distractions and hyperbole, their position must not be strong enough to stand. Today's political landscape seems to consist mostly of rhetorical framing, distractions and hyperbole.

I'm rather sick of it, while others continue to play the game, because their party demands it.

The choice is up to the individual, but a vote for the status quo is not going to repair the problems we face.

BTW, I as a long time door kicking knuckle dragger...I dig your avatar.

Liar.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

Can only white people be "racists"?

Challenge many coloured people on it, Finny?

We're ALL racists. Some of us, however, prefer not to pretend to be "holier than thou art" about it.

Learn to live with some discomfort. Either that, or go to Inspector AIPac's and register with the PC police.

Cuz your "reflexive" bowing to the double standards of liberals is hanging out of your pants where your d*ck used to be.

I find it disheartening that with the exception of Ducky, Jez, and Liberalmann (and possibly Steve whose comment appears to have been deleted) the rest of you stand in mute agreement to such a racist diatribe.

You complain when policed by the left and the media, yet here you stand failing to police yourselves. FT is certainly entitled to express his opinion, a right that I would staunchly defend, yet he has no right to our agreement or our silence.

Disappointing.

FreeThinke said...

Thank you, FJ.

I need no support, but I appreciate it, of course, especially when it's based on understanding.

What was it your friend Nietszche said? Something to this effect, I believe:

"Beware of him in whom the urge to punish is strong."

We run into sharp-tongued individuals cursed with a superiority complex and an overmastering penchant for bullying, badgering and name-calling all over the net -- which is, of course, a microcosm of the globe.

One thing has made itself abundantly clear to me in fourteen years of posting at blogs and websites: No matter WHAT topic is featured the exact same personality traits manifest themselves.

If you want to bother reading the comments posted in the classical music sections of YouTube, you will find the same sort of heated partisanship, obnoxious personal attacks and depressing lack of decorum and respect about the way someone plays Mozart or Schubert as you do here pertaining to definitions of Marxism, Racism, Patriotism, Religious Bigotry, etc.

Erich Fromm -- a member of the Frankfurt School of which I am most certainly not a fan -- once wrote a book called Must Men Hate?

Apparently, they must. (:-x

Surely most of us have noticed that approximately 90% of the remarks posted are negative, denigratory, defamatory, petulant, ill-natured and unappreciative of any positive values or hopeful ideas expressed or promoted?

What does that say about us?

Nothing very encouraging, I fear.

Meden agan, Finntann. Especially when only members of one group seem to be "speaking up".

No, racists can be of any color.

As a matter of fact FJ I have challenged 'coloured people' on it. Of the two most racist people I have ever met, one was black and one was white.

SF knows me, he can vouch that I am the last person that would stand for political correctness, however racism is racism and I am under no obligation to tolerate it from people of any color.

Political correctness has absolutely nothing to do with it. You simply revert to the PC argument to defend the indefensible.

I for one am not so naive to think that the color of man's skin dictates the quality of his character. I can honestly say Obama sucks... he doesn't suck because he's black, he sucks because he is a progressive statist with leftist tendencies, he'd suck if he was lily white too.

The greatest success the terrorists on 9/11 achieved wasn't downing two office buildings, it was getting Americans to sacrifice their principles of Freedom, Liberty, and Equality for a little imaginary safety.

How Finntann would end up if he ever actually wasn't lying...

Finntann said...

FT, I have absolutely no desire to punish you for your beliefs, or your statements. If you go back to my first comment all I said was:

"Racist comments like that demean your argument against his philosophy.

I for one find them no more tolerable than those made by extremists on the other side."

You're entitled to present your opinion, I'm entitled to rebut it. I rebutted it politely, if you take exception to the adjective racist, maybe you ought to go back and read what you wrote. Think I've mischaracterized your comments, by all means, enlighten us as to how they are not racist.

You can pretend you are the offended one, but frankly your comments are offensive. Now I have no right not to be offended, but I am under no obligation to remain silent in the face of such blatantly racist drivel.

You can attempt to paint me as a "sharp-tongued individual cursed with a superiority complex and an overmastering penchant for bullying, badgering and name-calling all over the net" but I might suggest you look in a mirror first.

"You can take the boy out of the jungle, teach him English, and put him in Harvard, but you can't take the jungle out of the boy."

Says all that needs to be said.

We all suffer from an excess of hubris, no doubt about it.

Finntann said...

Nice FJ... and you think yourself better than the mob.

Liar, lying... that the best argument you can come up with? Liar liar pants of fire?

Go on... let me see a rigorous intellectual defense of FTs postion on African savages in American politics.

Or maybe I should just link to the article about Texans in Jasper dragging the 'nigger' behind their truck?

Let me guess... growing up your mother asked "If Billy jumped off the bridge would you jump off too" alot.

Can't say I'm familiar with Liz McNicholl, but I'll be sure to check out her work. I like the genres she works in, is her other stuff as good?

@FJ "enabling?" Since Stevie only has one button on his jukebox I'd have to say that you and FT were the ones pushing it.

Sounds like Demon Rum has taken over the conversation.

Apparently, the capacity for self-delusion among human beings is infinite.

I have no taste -- or time -- for bickering.

Viburnum,

Shame in you! I wouldn't address Steve or even bother to allude to him, her or it, if he she or it was the last person left in earth.

I discovered long ago that it's much better to be alone than in bad company.

FJ is the only one who "got it."

Take care.

Freethinke: since FJ is a troll, his support of you is probably insincere.

Finntann: Freethinke is unashamed of his racism.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

And jez is EXTREMELY PROUD of his condescending, yet disturbingly patronizing attitude towards all minorities as exemplified by auto-reflexive yet one-sided attacks on every perceived example of "white" racism, but no other kinds.

Also, I've known FJ for probably ten years having encountered him in many and varied venues during that period.

He may be eccentric, but he is certainly not a troll. Much of what he posts flies far above the heads of most. He marches in lockstep with no one, and like most well-trained debaters is capable of arguing all sides of an issue with equal competence.

He just isn't a why-faced, doctrinaire leftist punk with a chip on his shoulder who likes to think he's smart, or a pugnacious bully with a chip on his shoulder the size of Gibraltar and a penchant for playing the role of prosecuting attorney in inappropriate settings.

I'll let you decide what this means and to whom it might apply:

He preached upon “breadth” till it argued him narrow —
The broad are too broad to define:
And of “truth” until it proclaimed him a liar —
The truth never flaunted a sign.

Simplicity fled from his counterfeit presence
As gold the pyrites would shun.
What confusion would cover the innocent Jesus
To meet so enabled a man!

~ Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)

It never ceases to amaze me how much certain remarkably insightful figures from the past -- some of them from as far back as 400 BC! -- knew about contemporary personaities -- even those of no account.

I had never heard of her. I just found this googling the song.

Tom Paxton wrote it, and I first heard Garrison Keillor sing it right after 9/11, back when Prairie Home Companion was still a delightful comedy and music show, and not Keillor's personal pulpit of hate that he used to fulminate against everything conservative.
